I think if you live in the U.S. and you intend to use the iPad 2 instead of selling it to a third-world country somewhere, then it all comes down to whether or not you grandfathered into the $30 unlimited plan on the iPad 1 somehow.

Otherwise, I've had significantly better Verizon signal on my new tablet, and honestly, that's more important to me as I need consistent connection more than faster data. AT&T signal in my house and at the work place is a nightmare.

My initial plan was to leave work at 3:00pm like I did and going straight to the apple store near my house. But I started doing google searches for the stores in my area and reports from people in the lines. I found tweets and other forum post from all of the four apple stores in my area and all od them had around 200 people in line. It became clear that wasn't going to happen.

My original plan was only to leave around 3:30, but that certainly doesn't work for the Apple Store. But kind of like how you described, you aren't really guaranteed the model that you want or anything really close. I wonder if the AT&T stores actually had any supplies (of the 3G models of course).

I went to the apple store this morning and bought a grey smart cover, camera kit and Bluetooth keyboard. I was surprised they had a wall full of every smart cover color.

I bought the gray smart cover as well. I wanted black, but $70 for a cover just seemed... well, very Apple haha. I thought about the camera kit as it would possibly simplify transferring pictures, which is kind of a pain right now with the whole "syncing one folder" thing. I did get the HDMI adapter as that feature cannot be achieved in any other way.

Shipping directly from China... they must really be trying to get these things out quickly.

I think it's standard practice for Apple. It was the same when I ordered iPods in the past. Shipped directly from China.

I received the blue cover today. I ordered Friday morning. That's fast ground shipping. Still havent received shipping notice for iPad2. :(

Well I've gone and ordered a marware folio case that's on preorder and am going to return my smart cover. I really do love the idea of the smart cover but have found it difficult and in the way when I fold it behind the iPad. Plus it's actually come off on me a few times that made me feel like it was adding to the risk of dropping it.

The case I ordered protects the front and back, has the built in stand function like the smart cover and also has the magnets like the smart cover so it locks and unlocks the screen.

Only down side is I have no clue when I'll get the new case and it cost $70 but I haven't been able to find anything else that fits what I'm looking for as much as it does.

I have a 1 GB data plan (on Fido in Canada) which includes tethering. You cannot tether a huge amount with that, but the iPad 2 will be mainly used just at home, and I've found the 1 GB is enough for me for my laptop tethering on the road anyway, since I'm not on the road a lot completely away from WiFi.

So, I'm buying the 16 GB WiFi-only iPad, as it's the cheapest. I just can't bring myself to spend more than $500 for an internet consumption device, esp. since Windows 7 triple-core desktop and my dual-core Windows 7 laptop both cost under $400.

I was playing with one at Best Buy today and it seems really neat. How do you like the wireless keyboard? Also, how hard is it to get files back and forth from a Windows PC?

That seems like a great case but $70... wow....
