ipad battery replacement

Where is a good reliable place to send my ipad air 2 for battery replacement??

It's out of warranty and I don't feel like messing with it myself.

Apple will supposedly do out of warranty battery replacement for $99, but they swap the whole thing, probably with a refurbished pad. Not really liking that option..

I haven't price shopped this, but $99 is probably a fair price. iPads are notoriously difficult to service due to all the glue they use.

Not really worried about the money, just didn't want to have to send it back to Apple just to get a refurbished ipad back.
I'll probably end up buying a replacement battery and just try to fix it myself.

What's your concern about receiving a refurbished iPad?

I don't really know, I just didn't like the idea. Also I will have to transfer all files to the replacement ipad.

Have you received a refurbished ipad back from apple? How'd it turn out?

No, I've personally never bought a refurbished anything from Apple BUT I have friends and family that have, and they've never had any complaints.

Also, you should do a full, wired, encrypted backup of your iPad regardless of the route you choose. If you opt to do the work yourself, there's a non-zero chance that you'll brick your iPad completely in the process.

Best to give it to Apple for $99, plus you get a 3 month warranty with it.

You are probably right. I found out I have to go to the hospital for neck surgery next week, I'll have to deal with Apple when I get back.
Certainly in no position to fix it myself at this point in time.

From what i've seen in youtube videos though changing batteries is do-able just a little tricky...

Good luck with neck surgery!

Yes it is definitely doable that being said. 🙂

On an iPad? Like I said, my understanding is that this is notoriously difficult because you have to deal with lots of hardened glue. iFixit sells some purpose-made product to soften the glue, but based on the cost and overall difficulty, IMO it's really meant for professional service providers than DIYers.

As far as the question about Apple refurbished products, everyone says these are "like new." My gf and I recently went in for the iPhone battery swap... 90 minutes later, they said the original device was bricked so they gave her a pristine refurbished unit. Unlike third party providers, Apple has strict customer data policies so I wouldn't even worry about doing a full wipe (i.e. factory reset) before turning the unit in. Obviously you should make a full iTunes backup (or at least an iCloud backup).

Personally I keep most of my electronics in excellent condition but most consumers will not receive an Apple refurbished device any worse than their current unit.

And hope the procedure went well!

Thanks for taking the time to respond manly. I will definitely back things up in iTunes and try to wipe the data off of it before sending it back.

I’m pretty sure I’m just going to mail it back to apple when I start feeling a little better. I’m in North Idaho and it’s not really easy for me to just walk into an apple store and get things fixed.

My surgery went well, thanks. I had it 2 weeks ago. Still on pain pills. They said like 6 months for full recovery.

So I mailed my ipad back to apple to get a out of warranty battery replacement. Now they are saying no trouble was found and they are shipping it back to me.
This ipad won't stay charged for more than an hour or two and they are saying they didn't find any problems with the battery. Frustrating... Looks like i'm going to have to call them and work this out as soon as I get it back, it's supposed to be today.

Do you have an apple store near by? i took my pro to store, it stay at 1%, $99 for out of warranty exchange..

Nearest one is like 3 hours away in Spokane. I got that Ipad back from apple and whatever they did to it it seems to hold a charge a lot better that it did before so i'm just going to use it for now. They never charged me to look at it.
I haven't actually counted how many hours i'm getting out of the battery yet but I guess I need to.
