So, my ip4 phone, that I use for entertainment, is on 4.1 and has been working great. I have noticed more and more apps are requiring 4.2. The latest is 4.3.5 which I hear is not jbable. Not being much into cracking into iphones (I was amazed I managed to jb a 3gs and my ip4) is there any way I can get this to 4.2 and retain root/unlock/jb or if not at least get it to 4.2 and re jb/root/unlock?

Yes. I think. I used to JB a lot but stopped doing it as much now that iOS mostly does everything that I want to.

So if you tried to upgrade to 4.2 by downloading the .ipsw firmware release, the phone will reject the upgrade because Apple's servers sign the decryption keys for releases, but they won't sign the keys for any release except the current one.

Instead, you need to use Sn0wbreeze to build a custom .ipsw with 4.2 in it. And then put the phone in DFU mode and upgrade to this hacked 4.2 version instead. I'd get you links, but I'm at work and I don't like to be cruising hack sites while on a work computer.

Dlerium, yeah. 4.3.3 is fine. But you can't go from 4.2 to 4.3.3 today. The upgrade won't happen. When you try to install you'll get one of those funky hard-to-read Apple errors. "An unknown error has occured: -14" or something like that. Apple will only "sign" the keys for the latest firmware release. So you can only upgrade to the newest which is 4.3.5.

Yeah, VashHT, you are right. pwnagetool is the Mac version, Snowbreeze is the Windows version.
