Hello,

I'm having problems with my mboard and I'm not sure if it's the cause of software or hardware faults.

Currently, all the PCI slots are failing and not detected at all, and the Realtek LAN isn't working either, although there is the yellow light when I plug a LAN wire into either of both.

Here are my specs:
Windows Vista 32-bit
Abit IP35 Pro
Intel Q6600 at Stock Speed
300GB Harddisk
4x 1GB Kingston HyperX CL4 Memory
2 IDE DVD drives
Ac-Bel 550W Power Supply

Hopefully, someone has a clue as to what's happening...

I've installed all the chipset drivers and tried flashing the mboard bios as well to no avail.

Thanks!

Regards,
Jeremy

Put the MB on the packaging box. Reflash with the latest BIOS. Format the HDD and clean install windows. What is an Ac-Bel PSU?

Hey,

Update here:

I tried a clean install of XP and it worked perfect.

When I moved back to Vista, it didn't work again.
I suspect it has to do with the Intel INF drivers for PCI, and since the LAN runs on that (I think), it should be the case, but I'm not sure how to fix it =/

Jeremy

Hey Serpent,

I tried that and it's still not working... any idea what could be it?

It really does seem like a software problem though...

I've tried different versions of the drivers as well, including beta versions... and nada =/

Oh and btw, was there a reason for the zero format?

Regards,
Jeremy

I want to make sure that the HDD is clean, including boot sector, etc.... I'd zero format, and use the supplied drivers from the CD. It it works with XP, then it should also work with Vista. I did not encounter any issue when I benched the IP35 Pro with Vista Business.

My advice is to get intel board if you want to run at stock speed, it is cheap - $110. And it has intel's gigabit ethernet. I haven't had a single issue since I got my DP35DP. Plus intel regularly releases BIOS updates... I understand this might not be doable in your situation.

It seems that in today's overclocking madness nobody bothers to make a stable board... people are reporting endless issues on 35P non-intel boards, and I don't have a single one.

Cool I'll give that shot, thanks for everything so far.

I'll have to head to work really soon so I won't be able to test completely until later...

thanks for the tip, but I think I'll have to stick with this mboard.. for now at least.. =/

oh and I tried using Copywipe but I got "Divide Overflow!"... What could be the error?

I did do this tho:

I booted into disk and used command prompt from there to do a format c:..

Is that good enough?

Jeremy

I'm using Seagate and they do have Discwizard but it's an application and not a bootable disc...

Just installed vista over the "Format c:" disk though and still not working =/

I'll try the zerofilll method later when I get home if I can find another way and update you agian... but that'll be at least 10 hours away..

Thanks for everything so far.. any other suggestions you might have?

Regards,
Jeremy

I don't have a single issue with my Abit IP35 Pro either. RAID 0 works fine, no dual POST, and Gb LAN works too with no problems. My guess that the reason you are hearing more issues with the non-Intel boards is because they have more features by comparison and because more people are buying them.

Working PCI slots are hardly 'extra feature'... I'm not going to advertise what I bought. I have one older abit board, IC7 that has all PCI slots more or less dead.

It really does seem like it's completely a software problem... since it works when I did XP...

Only reason I want vista to work is DX10...

Just a long shot here, but have you tried installing the Realtek driver from the CD that came with the motherboard? I don't think Vista auto installed a driver for mine.

I ask because I'm not sure if Vista will show you hardware in the device manager that isn't installed correctly (like XP). It might, but I can't remember if it does or not.

Hey nitro,

yep I did... tried different versions as well from different places and also tried multiple versions of the intel chipset drivers...

Thanks, appreciate it! haha

Will be trying out the zero fill later when I get home.. anymore possible causes? =/
It's really odd, and could it be hardware when it worked in XP?

Jeremy
