actually, I assume that it's bad when you get a C1 error on post (memory detection). I've already reset cmos. As the title says, I downloaded the latest beta bios and flashed with it. the flash appeared to go smoothly...until reboot, then C1 error. reset cmos and tried rebooting several times to no avail. Anybody have a fix for this?

take 1 DIMM out & try again.
reset voltage to the 2.2V that Crucial recommend.
install 2nd DIMM.

no dice. I have an extra 1gb of kingston hyper-x that I used a few months back when I had to rma the ballistix. same error. maybe that bios doesn't like crucial or kingston?

thanks to aigomorla's suggestion I finally (after 15 tries) got the system to post and boot into windows with my hyper-x in the 4th ram slot. I upped vdimm to 2.0 and now I'm going to try to re-insert my ballistix...wish me luck!

ok, everything is a-ok now! computer is back to its old, happy self with the ballistix back in place! According to aigomorla, the problem was a classic case of undervolting the ram. Fortunately I had that hyper-x 667 stick lying around... This is a good reason for bios fault codes, I would have had no idea where to look without that on my mobo...thanks abit :)

Evidently you had one of the forum 'BIOS heavyweights' help out!
i am glad it is solved. Yep, always look carefully at the RAM issues

i am a bit curious if the BIOS flash had anything to do with it ... or was it just cosmic "timing"

I feel confident that it was the flash. However, it is a beta bios that I've heard is necessary to support the 45nm quads and my X3350 is allegedly on the way, so I figured it was worth the risk. However, this is my 4th flash on this mobo and it's the first time that I've had any problems at all so I can't complain. Thanks again to aigomorla for the help! I posted on 5 forums (official abit, hocp, oc, plus another random one that I can't remember) and nobody has even responded yet from any other site. :( I guess it's nice to have AT friends on your side! :)

hmm, I posted & suggested that it was RAM voltage ....
feeling slightly aggrieved ;) :p
