IP 35 Pro: Slow Win XP boot unless JMicron disabled

Hi,
I am getting hellishly long delays between Win XP startup screen (with the bar animation) and the welcome screen.

I did install the latest Jmicron driver.

When I go into the BIOS and disable the Jmicron controller (which runs the eSATA and PATA), I get a lightning fast bootup, but no longer have access to my IDE DVD writer. I do not need eSATA, but certainly require my DVD writer.

Short of getting a new SATA DVD writer, does anyone know the solution to this problem?

Thanks in advance,

M Javid.

what's the settings of the Jmicron controller in BIOS ? IDE or AHCI or RAID ?

IDE. When I tried RAID in the BIOS, I lost the IDE devices. On re-boot Win XP detected the IDE and DVD as new devices, tried to install the drivers, which failed. I am going to try a Win XP re-install with the Jmicron drivers slipstreamed later today.

Just a general note,

Another way to speed up boots is to disable all alternative boot devices save your primary drive where your OS is.

OK, for those following this, I solved the problem.
I selected RAID instead of IDE in the BIOS, and then did a slipstream re-install of WinXP with the Intel and Jmicron RAID drivers using that lifesaver called nLite!

The DVD writer is working fine and Win XP is booting fast as it should.

I do however feel cheated that none of the Abit IP 35 Pro reviews or their website mentioned this problem or its solution. There are a lot of people using PATA ODDs and Win XP, and all of them must have had hellish long bootups.

Perhaps because most don't see it?
It's a setup thing & happened on 965s (& not just abits) too (same JMicron) -most people would be fine but there were a few who reported very long boots.

there's a new driver that just came out for the jmicron chip

ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/jmb36x/Win2k_xp_Vista/

and FWIW, i installed xp pro sp2 normally and used the supplied driver disc with no boot slowdown issues. i have 2x SATA non RAID drives which were set to RAID in the bios from the beginning. i guess that's because of my 2x raptors in RAID 0 & using the intel RAID drivers.

Did you use the F6 installation method to load the Jmicron RAID drivers?

What about your SATA drives, are they running as IDE, AHCI or RAID? Again did you use the F6 method for Intel RAID?

Thanks,

MJavid

i used the f6 but only installed the intel RAID driver, not the jmicron. i did the jmicron via windows & the abit cd.

all my hdd's are under "RAID" in the bios.

i have 2x74gb raptors in RAID 0 & 2x200gb SATA's non RAID.

i'll reboot to dbl check my bios settings and edit if i'm incorrect.

I dont have this issue with Vista. I never installed any JMicron drivers, it works fine. However I only use it for IDE mode.
