So people were walking around yelling "beat whitey night", and this is the police department's thought on the matter:

Really? You don't know and its under investigation?

It was racially motivated and I'm not surprised. Iowa has had a lot of Chicago imports recently and they haven't been the best of guests. My city gov't just closed section 8 apps ostensibly due to funding issues but probably also because of local pressure to quit housing Chicagoans. And yes, I have been called "cracker" near section 8 in my town in this behavior is inappropriate for any civilized people.

Bump, so the "beatings happen all the time, it wasn't really racially motivated" apologists can post.

Meh, conflating this thread/incident with the other about the 4 students assaulting one other student is baseless.

In this thread, people were targeting multiple others, apparently all the vicitms shared was their race (and geographical proximity I suppose).

In the other thread there no is evidence that other Muslims were targeted by the bullies.

Yep, definately racially motivated. And most of us raised in America are conditioned to have a hard time accepting that a White person can be a victim of a hate crime, we are conditioned to think it just does not happen much if at all. Nearly every movie [American History X etc] shows Racism as White people vs Everyone else. And non-white people are shown as not having a drop of racism at all. Sure those are just movies, but when it is film, print media, Schools/Colleges, the news, Congressmen etc that make it sound as though White people are always the perps in such crimes it does effect the way people view things.

This case for example. Its a clear cut case of racism, yet the Cops are saying it "might" be racism but "probably" isnt...Thats a symptom of a biased view of what racism is and the reluctance to admit that it is possible White people were racially targeted.

All one has to do in a case like this is swap the scenario around to see if it is racist. Replace the Black guys with White men and replace the White victims with Black victims. Swapping it around instantly shouts that this was a Racist incident. And if it really was a case of White men going into a Fair that has mostly black people in it and shouting "beat the Blacks!" Al Sharpton would have been hovering into that town on his "racist-mobile" in a heart beat to make sure the world knows what happened.

YES. It's a common misconception that hate crimes are only commited by whites.

Blacks commit MORE crimes classified as hate crimes per capita than whites
http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/ucr

A review of available race data reported in 2008 for the 6,927 known hate crime offenders revealed that:

* 61.1 percent were white.
* 20.2 percent were black.
* 5.9 percent were groups made up of individuals of various races (multiple races, group).
* 1.1 percent were Asian/Pacific Islander.
* 0.7 percent were American Indian/Alaskan Native.
* 11.0 percent were unknown. (Based on Table 9.)

Racial bias

More than half of the single-bias hate crimes were racially motivated. Of the 4,934 victims of these racial bias crimes:

* 72.9 percent were victims of an offender’s anti-black bias.
* 16.8 percent were victims because of an anti-white bias.
* 3.4 percent were targeted because of an anti-Asian/Pacific Islander bias.
* 1.3 percent were victims because of an anti-American Indian/Alaskan Native bias.
* 5.6 percent were victims because of a bias against a group of individuals in which more than one race was represented (anti-multiple races, group). (Based on Table 1.)

You need to separate Hispanics/Latinos from Whites with your numbers. Often times Latinos are lumped in with Whites as a racial demographic for such studies to pad the numbers.

Look at those categories again. 16.8% isn't all white victims. It's victims targeted for being white.

If a Latino is a victim of a hate crime because of being white, why would that be separated?
