anyone heard of this? curious if so as to where you heard about it.

i've been waiting months for this movie to come out as i thought it would help ron paul and educate the masses. too late to help him get votes, but certainly a movie that all americans, especially voters, should see. rp is in it, as well as warren buffet, greenspan, and some other big names. it follows david walker (former comptroller general of the usa) on his fiscal wake up tour. he's basically saying we cannot continue down the financial path we are on. the movie was made by agora financial and bought by pete peterson, who threw a billion behind it's message and pulled walker away from the government to try and get this message out. the movie is supposed to be able to hold the interest and teach the average person about all of our defecits. it is being shown across the us ONCE currently - august 21st, a thursday, at 7pm cst. it will be followed by a live panel with buffet, peterson and walker. the movie was invited to, and won awards at, the 2007 sundance film festival. i advise going and bringing all friends and family alike, especially anyone that is economically ignorant or politically apathetic. the guys who made the movie are mostly libertarian / republican kind of guys, but they tried to keep the movie as free from political opinion or blame as possible.

Won't be seeing it. I think RP is psycho, and I despise all political movies like this. A libertarian version of a Michael Moore movie? Oh I'm sure that's fantastic.....

If a guy through a billion behind it, why couldn't he post it for free on the net?

The main reason I won't see it is that I already know the US is doing terrible things economically, so it would be preaching to the choir.

it's not all about RP, or even who he blames or his solutions. the movie is not republican or democrat or libertarian, it is about facts. david walker was the head accountant for the us government - not michael moore. you have little to lose by seeing this movie, and much to gain, especially IMO if you are ignorant enough to say ron paul is "psycho" - he was the only one beating the drum about economic problems (for years) - i haven't been able to look at anything on CNN without it mentioning the economy and money are the #1 issue for months. who else was talking about inflation? recession? his advisor was schiff - who predicted the failure of freddie and fannie more than a year ago.

regardless of what you think about RP the movie is most certainly worth watching, and is NOTHING like a moore "documentary".

it may very well get distributed free on dvd or at least free for some on dvd. i do not know how they will be distributing it going forward. if someone uploaded it on google vid i assume they would let it stand.

as a side note you should check out itulip.com - they make a good case for saying that oil is not even capable of being in a bubble.

I have plenty to lose. The time spent watching it, and the money spent on it. That's more than I'm willing to lose to hear more of the same.

And I know plenty about the economic situation, and I still think Ron Paul is a psycho. He is not the messiah his equally psycho follows would like him to be.

I'm not sure how much one can trust a message from someone who puts $1billion behind a Documentary. That's a figure of speach, an exageration, or the guy is an idiot.

Probably a good Documentary though, probably should just be released Free on the Net for Download or broadcast on PBS.

despite disagreeing with him, i have no idea why you would consider him "psycho" although i would agree that some of his fringe supporters can get a little out there. as far as messiah treatment, if you look around and only see 1 guy you think is telling the truth it's not surprising for a cult of personality to develop.

i would argue that obama receives the similar, if not more, treatment - and that at least rp's views are based on economic realities and not "hope" that something like a windall profits tax because of an 11% profit margin that takes capital from energy companies will somehow increase the supply of economically viable energy.

it is all rumors but i thought at one point they may be working with pbs. it is not 1 bill behind the movie, but 1 bill behind the message; pete peterson bought the movie from agora for i don't know how much. and he hired david walker away from the government. david walker is now heading the pete peterson foundation which he started with 1 billy.

A) You're wrong, just because I've grown tired of arguing with some of the extremists, and now just remind them of the fact, doesn't mean anything.
B) When did I say there was anything 'bad' about this movie? Can you not read, or did you make that up in your head? All I said was I'm not going to see it, because in all likelihood it's more of the same things I've heard over and over again for the past year or so.

I do not have videos at work, haven't watched the trailer, don't need to from your summary. From the way you described it, it's an in depth analysis of the economic situation in the country, and it's view is in line with those of Ron Paul. I've heard those things ad nauseum in the past year or so, hence, more of the same.

And you two were the first to use the word propaganda. Perhaps you pulled that from the Michael Moore comment - while I'm sure this is made in a more honest fashion than a Moore docudrama, I highly doubt the intent is much different.

Perhaps. However a quick Google search for "david walker" and "ron paul" shows quite a bit of correlation, so I doubt I'm very far off the mark. I mean, you said so yourself that the creators are libertarian.

Again, I'm not saying anything is wrong with this movie, just that I don't need to see it - I've heard the viewpoint and rationale of the libertarian faithful plenty.

as someone supposedly educated on economics you should know that correlation does not imply causation. a quick google search for "ron paul" and "paris hilton" brings up 404,000 results. the facts that david walker is providing are not libertarian, nor are they democrat or republican. and people in all parties are represented in the movie, regardless of who made it.

as far as the austrian school of economics and rp is concerned, it is quite easy to go back 1 year ago and look at what candidates were saying about the economy and see where we are actually at and headed today. the only guy i really liked besides rp was kucinich's advisor (michael hudson) but i don't think kucinich spoke to his views much.

And again, you said yourself that it was made by libertarians, and that you hoped it would help Ron Paul/educate the masses. The biggest group that has been fighting our current economic policy is the libertarian/Ron Paul faithful. All signs (brought by you) point to this movie promoting a smaller federal government and strong fiscal conservatism.

I highly doubt this movie strays very far from the libertarian ideals, why would it? Why are you trying to convince people otherwise? You're backpedaling and basically disagreeing with your first post now.

I never understood what was supposedly so great about Clinton. So many erroneously give him credit for the economy during his administration. He wasn't bad. But hell, after the past 7 years, I guess anything looks good.

the movie is simply pointing out that you can't have your cake and eat it too. that is a fact whatever your political beliefs. and if you never had any care or desire to see it, i have no idea what your motivation was for even participating in this thread, other than apparently to assert your political and economic superiority.

What kind of replies would you find acceptable? Glowing recommendations of the movie? Thankful people who also wanted to see it? That's fine. But I fail to see what's wrong with someone saying "no thanks"? These forums are an open discussion, and that's what you get, both agreeable and dissenting responses.
