I see no reason to. All you'd get by switching from iOS to Windows 8 is a much worse selection of apps. . . and probably inferior hardware as well.

Well... no.

In fact, I wouldn't even switch to Windows 7 to Windows 8 in its current state.

If I switch, it'll probably be due to hardware more than software. Something about Windows 8 seems overly simplified and less elegant than what I'm used to. Plus the gestures and interface seem very cumbersome.

Been a bunch of cool windows apps that have been developed over the past, what?, 10 years? 15 maybe?

Inferior in what regard? IMO there's better performing hardware on the market than what Apple chooses to force you to use...

I've bought angry birds, that's the extent of my iOS investment. I'm definitely going to go Windows 8 a go.

Touch first applications. Of course the "windows" library of applications is many hundreds times larger. But if you were going from iOS to Windows 8, you'd be looking for touch, right?

Displays mainly. But Windows 8 is really far away and there's very little new on the hardware that will be sold.

Apple has the fastest mobile GPU in a tablet (in terms of ARM SoC) on the market currently, and the closest competitor is 3x slower.

Intel's Cedar Trail platform with the Intel GMA 3600 (based on PowerVR SGX 545) is still around 50% slower even at its highest clock speed.

All of which are:
a. not designed for a touch interface and
b. not compatible with ARM

I have a laptop that runs all my legacy x86 apps just fine, and I will probably upgrade it to Windows 8 at some point. But TC was presumably talking about tablets, and Windows 8 tablets will only be useful for Metro apps.

Inferior build quality, inferior screen, inferior GPU.

If we're just talking about ARM-based systems, I don't know why you'd say there's better hardware out there than Apple "forces you to use". The only thing that I thunk could be qualified as better is a Tegra 3 and that's only on the processing side because its a quad core. The 543MP2 is better than a Tegra 3, let alone a MP4.

I'll probably try a windows slate. I think , with regards to windows, the evolution will be X86 laptops that run the full version with detachable LCD's that have all of the ARM bits for table uses.

But in the next 10 years it won't matter what hardwar is in most people's computer. Everything will be done in the cloud for most people.

I'll probably pick up a Windows 8 tablet eventually, but unless it really blows me away I doubt that I'd drop my iPad, even though I haven't invested much into apps. Don't see why it needs to be an either/or kind of thing as having a Windows 8 tablet doesn't mean I can't have an Android or iOS tablet.

I got to see Windows 8 running on an EP-121. Not impressed at what I saw at all. They need to design Windows 8 as two separate versions - not as a desktop OS with mobile skin.

started out with the itouch, moved to android (where I've purchased a ton of apps) but I still think I'll give Win 8 (x86) a chance. If they run their app store in a similar manner as Apple and Google (buy once use everywhere) it's conceivable I'll build up a cache of apps for WARM as well.

Ah... well... guess I'm way behind in the ipad hardware world. Don't get me wrong, I like a nice tablet but it's really a toy for me - I just cant seem to be productive on an iPad (or an Android tablet).

I guess I'm hoping that a Windows 8 tablet will be a more familiar look and feel.

Despite the 4S only being an upgrade, which Windows Phone model is better? There are some good ones, granted, but I don't see the point in switching.

I intend to run Win8 on all of my PCs and will probably buy a tablet that runs it eventually since I still am using an iPad 1st gen. I don't intend to replace my Galaxy Nexus with a Windows 8 phone until my contract is up at the earliest. If a Windows 8 phone came out with a Tegra 3 or dual core A15 processors, 1GB of ram, LTE, good battery, and Nokia's N8 camera quality I'd buy regardless of cost probably but I know I'm dreaming

The only thing Windows 8 has over iOS is Office, but I believe I read that MS is set to release Office for iOS anyway, so I no longer see the need for an iOS user to switch.

I feel like OP's question is like asking "Ketchup to Mayonnaise: Will you make the switch?".

While they're technically analogs, they fill different niches and the overall appeal of each is based more on the what's 'around' the object rather than the object itself.

The few things/rumors we know are that ARM Windows will come with Student Office pre-installed (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, One Note), and that Office on the iPad will be really stripped down.

My upgrade comes up in October (used my mom's upgrade for my 4S) as well as my brother. He is set on a S3 or w/e Samsung has available then. But I'm open to w/e. I'm pretty impressed with the Lumnia 900. Windows also seems alot smoother like iOS (unlike my old droidX).

At the danger of dredging up a really old tired argument (but I do feel in this case its relevant), if you need a fully featured office suite wouldnt you be better off with a laptop?

Probably. I'd only see myself using OneNote or Powerpoint on a tablet. But some people might like the tablet form-factor and want the full software, and for them it's there.

OneNote is/was extremely good on Windows Tablet PC's so i can see the appeal of having it on an ARM tablet.
