Well i guess I am sending message, but I only recieve messages from one. I know the problem has something to do with the fact they used to iMessage me, but how do I fix it?

You need to deactivate iMessage on your phone number. I suspect you'll need to put your phones sim in an ios device and turn iMessage off.

i did that before i formatted it

I still believe it is enabled on your number. I assume the sender's phone still indicates it is trying to use iMessage? I've had to recently deactivate and activate iMessage to get it to turn on correctly. Maybe you are having the opposite problem. I would activate it again and then turn it off again.

You are sure you had the sim installed when you turned it off?

oh! i didnt have the sim installed(well active sim) when i turned it off, but I was on wifi.
I had to get a new sim because the nexus 5 uses the larger one

I don't think it knows the phone number to deactivate without the sim. When I don't have mine in it doesn't list my phone number as available for iMessage.

so how does imessage work, through your Apple account?

I'm not entirely sure, because you tell it that you want to receive iMessages that people send to either your phone number and/or email address. So when iMessage went live, the first message that person A sent to person B's phone number was a text message, but somehow iOS figured out that both A and B had iPhones, so every message after that point was an iMessage. And you'll have separate threads for iMessages sent to the other person's phone number and email address. A problem that my friend and I deal with every 6 months or so.

Does iMessage on the sender's site know to immediately default to SMS or is it purely server side? What I'm saying is if you're talking to "John," maybe "John's iPhone" still thinks you're on iMessage?

A friend of mine had to call Apple support to turn off the iMessage functionality on her number when she went back to Android...she was borrowing an iPhone and when she got her SIII back, she couldn't receive text messages from iOS users...it was a PITA to figure out.

I bet majority of iPhone users are unaware of this problem and will blame their Android phone or carriers when they switch. Talk about ecosystem lock-in. Apple should be required to post a warning and fix on the front of their support page.

finally talked to apple staff. "you should recieve that email with instructions in a little while..."
me: "about how long?"
them: "[neandering techno babble], 20-30 mins"
me: "really? usually i receive emails instantly"
them: "this is complicated" ie:i dont want you to recieve the email and then i will have to offer further support you when whatever is in that email doesnt work.

Best solution is to ditch iphone and there ridiculous restrictions. Not to forget the sky rocking price they ask for that.
I won't mind paying that money. But, After paying that much for iphone. I don't want to be told that I can't do this and do that.

Just sell it and buy an android instead.
