iOS 8 is a disaster

WHY DO YOU HATE TEXT SO MUCH? Selecting the proper words in a pain in the ass and often cooy and paste will outright fail to work. Try to select text and the selection thimbs will jump all over the screen. There is just no excuse for this.

Agreed, this is horrible, but is this a Safari incompatibility with UBB forums? I don't notice it with Mail or Messages for instance.

This has always been my issue with iOS, predictive text, copy and paste and spell check have always been incredibly terrible compared to the competitors. How the hell is there no "Add" or "Add to dictionary" when it can't find a word.

It happens in a lot of apps for me. Safari has the bonus "There was an error on the page and it needed to be reloaded."

When you're typing, if you click the little x on the spell check bubble, it adds that word to the dictionary. I've done it with words I've misspelled and was infuriated it decided that 'fuxk' is a more acceptable option than 'duck' when I properly spell that four letter word.

Threads like these are why I've left iOS 7.1.2 on my 5S lol

I'll do the 8 upgrade sooner or later, but not until I have to.

I've never gotten that on my iPhone. My curses are all centered around iTunes. iTunes Radio just quits randomly, sometimes when I disconnect headphones the music keeps playing (It's supposed to pause. I've had iPods for 10+ years, IT'S SUPPOSED TO PAUSE), and on and on.

^^^ I've gotten that message before, but only rarely.

8.1.x still feels like a beta to me.

At least it doesn't feel like an alpha. 😛

Seems to be the current trend in software design these days. Push out the beta build and let the public pay to test it for you. I've been using iOS from the early days and this sure seems like the buggiest rollout I can remember. I wouldn't even attempt to install it on my 4S, that's for sure.

I have a work 4S so was forced to upgrade it, but I have to say it hasn't been that bad. I haven't really noticed any obvious slow down.

In saying that, there also seems no reason to upgrade. I don't even see any difference.

I agree. It's f---ing terrible.

If I try to select text while posting on ATOT, I can't go all the way to the end or beginning without losing my entire selection. I believe it kinda-works when I go *just* enough to select the first/last character and absolutely no further.

Then the goddamn options for selected text disappear as soon as they pop-up! GAH!

I've only just now started to use the cut/copy/past icons on the landscape keyboard to get around this.

Then you have that issue where (cut/copy,paste) will spit-out something you had in your clipboard *before* the last cut/copy operation.

I believe I've even tried pasting to verify that I had copied something, then switch to another app or tab and paste again; only to get some older text instead of what I just copied.

We're on 8.1.1 now. When will they fix the problem where you often can't get Control Center to appear on the lock screen? WHEN?!

Then you have all the screen orientation glitches with the iPhone 6 Plus...

Oh yes. That too. Probably because I have so many tabs I'll never get back to. It should have detected inactivity and hibernated those tabs. If not, that's a software engineering failure.

Happens on my phone and on my iPad mini Retina (2nd gen mini, A7).

Oh yeah. I go for short drives because I'm so close to where I work. The Music app gets stuck on the same song for weeks because it always starts at the beginning. Why can't it remember how far it was through the song?!

Have you tried Messages?

  • Intuitive voice messaging with gestures.
  • Raise to your ear to listen without even unlocking your phone.
  • Raise to your ear to record a reply and send it without even unlocking your phone.
  • Location sharing (works with groups too).
  • Instant selfie or instant video clip.

The way iOS 8 handles text is terrible. Copy/paste is basically useless. Hold a link to open a new tab is extremely inconsistent. Autocorrect? What the hell is it thinking? Often it corrects stuff that didn't need corrected and stuff that should be corrected it doesn't fix.

I put 8.1.1 on my original iPad mini, that was a complete disaster. I guess it worked out for Apple because I decided to upgrade to an iPad Air 2 in the hopes that it would alleviate my frustrations. Nope. Granted the air 2 is way faster than the mini and applications don't crash like they did on my iPad mini but overall am I happy with the upgrade? No. My plan was to unload my laptop and go all tablet. iOS 8 basically decided that I'm keeping my laptop for the foreseeable future. When I was on iOS 7.1.2 with my iPad mini I was all in for dumping my laptop, now I'm glad I hesitated.

I put 8.1.1 on my iPhone 4s, that was also a disaster. The ONLY reason I updated was because work rolled me onto an iPhone 6+ so in order to facilitate the upgrade I had to be on iOS 8. The couple days I had to use my 4s on iOS 8 was a nightmare. Same scenario on the phone as with my iPad mini, not really worth it to me. If it weren't for work rolling me onto the 6+, I'd be pissed with the upgrade coming from the capable 4s on iOS 7.1.2. Granted, the 6+ has an epic battery compared to my tired 4s and my hope was to use the 6+ as a replacement for my iPad mini. In hindsight I should have opted for the plain iPhone 6 and kept my iPad mini on iOS 7.1.2.

Live and learn.

I don't know if you guys know this, but there is a trick to installing iOS 8.2 beta 1 without being a developer. Those text selection and pasting issues forced me to do it. I hear it is jailbreakable too but TaiG has support disabled in the current release. Had the problem with a webpage that needed to reload earlier (scrolled up and then noticed the previously rendered parts weren't rendered as I scrolled back down; got the message a minute later after scrolling up and down repeatedly).

I believe that Apple deliberately leaves such glitches in iOS so that jailbreakers will play their hand and then users will get frustrated enough to give up their jailbreak for the fix.

Edit: Guess what? Just experienced the text selection issues in iOS8.2 beta 1. Screw you, Apple!

Yes! I've had that happen too.

I haven't had any of these issues you guys speak of.

Bull. The only way to not have the issues is to sit there and stare at it without ever interacting with text fields. You simply aren't using your device the way it is meant to be used. Perhaps you have laptops and PCs more convenient to you in more places than other mobile users, but if you do even basic text manipulation in an iOS8 browser then this issue will manifest multiple times daily.
