The way iOS 8 handles text is terrible. Copy/paste is basically useless. Hold a link to open a new tab is extremely inconsistent. Autocorrect? What the hell is it thinking? Often it corrects stuff that didn't need corrected and stuff that should be corrected it doesn't fix.
I put 8.1.1 on my original iPad mini, that was a complete disaster. I guess it worked out for Apple because I decided to upgrade to an iPad Air 2 in the hopes that it would alleviate my frustrations. Nope. Granted the air 2 is way faster than the mini and applications don't crash like they did on my iPad mini but overall am I happy with the upgrade? No. My plan was to unload my laptop and go all tablet. iOS 8 basically decided that I'm keeping my laptop for the foreseeable future. When I was on iOS 7.1.2 with my iPad mini I was all in for dumping my laptop, now I'm glad I hesitated.
I put 8.1.1 on my iPhone 4s, that was also a disaster. The ONLY reason I updated was because work rolled me onto an iPhone 6+ so in order to facilitate the upgrade I had to be on iOS 8. The couple days I had to use my 4s on iOS 8 was a nightmare. Same scenario on the phone as with my iPad mini, not really worth it to me. If it weren't for work rolling me onto the 6+, I'd be pissed with the upgrade coming from the capable 4s on iOS 7.1.2. Granted, the 6+ has an epic battery compared to my tired 4s and my hope was to use the 6+ as a replacement for my iPad mini. In hindsight I should have opted for the plain iPhone 6 and kept my iPad mini on iOS 7.1.2.
Live and learn.
