I have a work 4S so was forced to upgrade it, but I have to say it hasn't been that bad. I haven't really noticed any obvious slow down.

In saying that, there also seems no reason to upgrade. I don't even see any difference.

The latest version of iOS 8 fixed some of the issues with performance. The initial release was pretty bad according to the scuttlebutt. Slowdowns and scaling issues. Apple still sells two A5 devices so they couldn't leave it like that. Not like they did with 3G owners when iOS4 came out.

iOS8 seems more like an under the hood fix like Snow Leopard was. Older phones will be content running iOS 7. Apple sorta has to realize that people tend to keep their non-phone iDevices longer, so support has to be extended beyond 2-3 years.

Apple has to stop selling A5 based devices too. Not only are they still selling the original iPad mini, and the iPhone 4S 8 GB through some carriers, the current top-of-the-line iPod touch is still on the A5 too.

The only good part about this is they have some incentive to continue to try to speed up iOS 8 on A5 devices.

Story of my life.

Been using daily iphones since the 3G (first one sold in Europe), and iPads since the iPad 2, and I've never seen that screen (or a similar one).
Didn't even knew it existed. (that error message)

Are you running iOS8 and browsing to threads with lots of pictures? What is your posts-per-page setting?

Apple TV is A5 too :)

...but at least A5 is adequate for that.

Happens ALL THE F#$%ING TIME on my iPhone 6 Plus, my iPad mini retina (2nd gen w/ A7), and my brother's iPhone 6 Plus.

Happens on AT forums and other sites too.

paste directly into post without using the "insert link" button. not that hard.

I'd have to add the BBCode manually, which is what I actually do more often than not. HOWEVER: It often has exactly the same problem when I do it that way.

I simply found that my steps were repeatable demonstrably inconsistent. At one point in the video, it pasted correctly, but I accidentally did a hyperlink instead of an IMG. I deleted it and pasted again as IMG, but the wrong text came out. I had to give focus back to the text field and use the undo option to get the text back, then finally did the BBCode manually.

It's not just the IMG inputbox. It even does it between apps.

The way iOS 8 performs, plus the way it handles text now has me so frustrated to the point that if I could return this air2 I would. I'd sell off all my iDevices and walk away now. This is the worst I've ever seen it, it has rendered my devices completely useless to me at this point.

I use my iPhone a lot for work and since replying to email is nearly impossible now, I have to fire up my laptop. To me I may as well go back to a generic flip phone if I have to fire up my laptop to type or manipulate text in a reply.

Your video shows my biggest frustration, I cannot get the menu to stay! I don't even get the chance to copy/paste because the menu keeps disappearing on me. It will NOT stay long enough for me to even make a selection! It's also completely random, sometimes it will work for a while then boom, just stop. When it does work and let's me do a copy/paste, selecting text is impossible because the selection bars jump randomly all over the screen. Making a selection is all but impossible. Then once I fight through all that, trying to paste it yields exactly what you show. Pasting something that I copied days ago and not what I'm currently trying to do!

Yup. I've found that I sometimes can't get the action menu to stay unless I type a space or something first. Then I have to tediously delete the space later.

I'll have to see if a space will help.

I think the whole "touch" menu system along with the way it handles text is completely borked. Hold to open in new tab doesn't work right in safari or in Mercury browser. I wonder if their eagerness to add multifunction gestures has interfered with the "normal" menu system?

I just don't know why they haven't come up with a better selection system. You ought to be able to bring up an alternate set of keys where you can swipe to move the insertion point or to expand a selection left or right a whole word or an individual character.

From what I've read it fixed an issue with ringtones and nothing else has been documented or called out other than bug fixes.

Most bug fixes, even the annoying ones, are classified as "minor" by Apple and they aren't mentioned in the changelog.

But then they mention something stupid, like the ringtone bug...
