I was interested in getting the new HP mini 311 netbook but also heard that when win7 drops there will be new ION netbooks from various companies such as samsung, lenovo and so on. Worth the wait or will the new ION netbooks be all the same and if not has anyone seen a promising upcoming model?

no, the reason you cant configure it with more is that microsoft doesnt allow you to sell a netbook with xp with more than 1gb.

it has 1 ddr3 sodimm slot. they make 4gb sodimms (they are very expensive though).

That is probably going to change if it comes with Win 7 installed after 22 October.

it's only an XP limitation for OEMs. there's nothing illegal about buying a netbook and installing your own RAM.

The hp mini 311 can take up to 3gb of ddr3 ram. Atleast from what I've read the chipset can accept.
