Iomega ZipCD CD-RW $129.99 at CompUSA -- Staples Pricematch

This would be a good deal if anyone bought the Iomega CD-RW in the last two weeks, CompUSA have them for $129 - $30 rebate -- fineal price $99.99. Call Staples (if you bought in the last 14 days) and pricematch to $129.

You failed to mention WHICH Iomega CD-RW, so I'll mention it. This is for the 8x4x32 ZipCD. In the CompUSA ad that came out Thursday they actually had a Cendyne CD-RW drive pictured instead of the Iomega. I stopped by CompUSA today and they had about 100 of the Iomega 8x4x32 drives out on a display. I wonder if people took one look at the ad and figured they didn't want a generic (Cendyne) CD-RW drive?

Hey....I need some help from anyone that has ordered the iomega 8x4x32 cdrw (december 20-now)
If anyone has a printout of their order, or some way of showing the price that you paid was 129.99 or cheaper, it would really help me out.
I got screwed when i tried to PM with staples.com and i need something to send to them proving that compusa or somewhere had a cheaper price than what i ordered.

I lost the page i printed out so now i can't PM
can anyone help?

thanks in advance.

I have to tell everyone that this burner SUCKS! I have it and dearly wish that I spent a bit more to get a good name like Sony or Plextor. This might say 8x but only with the very best media. With Kingston 8x cd's I max out at 4x. Same with Imation 12x's. If you're even considering this drive, at least check out the Iomega Support Forums. This drive is not made by Sanyo like it's 12x step-brother. It's not made by Plextor either. And by the way, I paid $125 for this drive after rebate... in August.

Hey, Thanh, how you measure the speed of this CDRW? I bought one 3 weeks ago. When I record a 12xCDR, it needs 25 mins. Is it normal? I feel a little bit longer.

I just got one for my sister for Chistmas. I got it installed the other night and am burning on Orifice Depot brand (PNYs) at 8x with no problems.

I use Nero and measure what it says and how long it takes to burn a CD. I have burned at 8x with Samsung Premium Media and Sony brand. With Office Depot 700 I maxed out at 2x, taking almost 40 minutes.

Thanh is right. It is very picky with the brand of media you use. I have yet to burn faster than 4X with mine. Here is a link to Iomega's supported media list. I have used Kodak Ultima Gold 8X cdr's(supported) and Imation 12X cdr's(not supported) and neither will burn faster than 4X. It's a POS if you ask me.

I just went to compusa and bought mine, i will go back on 1st to return and buy back so i can get that $150 instant rebate and then use the $30 rebate from IOMEGA so total cost to me $99.99+tax i guess.

Can someone change the thread subject title so that this doesn't confuse people? There is a new Dec31/Jan1 deal to get the 12x10x32x for $99 at CompUSA...

I have had a memorable contact with Iomega a few years back on why their drives burn at not the speed that I dictated. If I remember right, they said that it's because of a "special" feature on their drive that prevents coasters. If the drive isn't able to detect the media and it's speed, then it'll burn at 2x or 4x. What does this mean? The drive is crap unless you're rich enough to buy tons of kodak, verbatim, or other high quality media.

Also keep in mind of this, I caused so much fuss that I probably made a CSR at Iomega get yelled at. It turns out that my media (cheap CDRW media) could only burn at 2x. So I was blaming Iomega for my mistake. But it wasn't all my fault, the drive burned at inconsistent speeds even on the same media.

hey Than:

I installed one of these for a friend and also tried to use this drive with the Office Depot 700 mb, and it took about 50 minutes. EZ CD creator didn't help me find out why. Then I tried Nero, and says "write speed changed due to media." I thought the drive was defective, but now that you say the same thing, it might just be worthless.

Does anyone know is the best media for this thing?

Hi mrVW,

There is a new Dec31/Jan1 deal to get the 12x10x32x for $99 at CompUSA...

Where is this deal?

Letian,
yeah, I bought it yesterday at OM b&m, came out to 140 and change including tax. Didn't see anything about the mir.

This drive sucks. I had to test one for a client. It said it was recording at 8x and said the cd would be done in 7 minutes. I timed it on my watch and it was exactly 14 minutes. You could actually see the counter counting the seconds very slowly. Used Adaptec 4.02. On my Yamaha scsi 4x and my Teac 6x neither one has had this problem on the same system. Spend more for the either Plextor, Sanyo, or the 12X Iomega.
