The only other major player with 12x10x32's on the shelves is sanyo and it is not a sanyo bezel.

The Iomega also has a TLA number on the top lable. Plextors also use TLA#'s

I think it's at least 99.9% sure this is a plex

the old firmware is the 1.04 version on plextor's website. you can simply revert back by copying the 1.04 .rom file to the directory where you unziped my file. don't replace the .exe. as I said, don't run the program unless you are sure you will. I will test it my self tomorrow when I get my money back.

I tried the new one -- it didn't work either; it says "Iomega CDRW Missing." - maybe it doesn't like Windows 2000? I'm not going to try any more until someone else confirms it, let's just wait until you unbox your drive. I'm in no hurry. 1.04 is working fine my what I've done so far.

Wedesdo,

do you know where the 1.06 comes from ?what it has that the 1.03/4 don't have ?. the ones for plextor i could fine are 1.04/5 and 7 no 1.06 my iomega shows 1.06 ??

I only see new firmware's for the 4x4x24. "Firmware updates can be downloaded from the Iomega® Software Download site at http://www.iomega.com/software/completed/zipcd.html"

I can not belive that Iomega did not release a public firmware update utility and newer firmwares. Anyone know what changes were made in the newest updates? This deal *could* be a way to flush out the old stock, but I still doubt it.

Either way, this is a good deal for the parents puter. I may even temporally use it even though it is not scsi 😛 Anyone know when Compusa opens tomorrow?

I just tried Wedesdo's latest .003a utility on it, and no dice. The .exe actually locked up my system, and scared the sh*t out of me for a minute. Methinks I'll wait until it's confirmed working.

I ran it through my Win98se boot, and just as Mr.VW reported, holding down eject button on powerup makes the light flash, but the ID still reads "IOMEGA ZIPCD3840INT-A"

Wedesdo's first version gave me the "IOMEGA CDRW Missing" message, just like Mr.VW.

I figured if it all went to hell in handbasket I could return it as "defective" and sport a new one.

why do we need thread ii?
it's a waste of bandwidth.
we should just stick to the very original post since it seems it's accmulating LOTS of info right now.
good luck everyone.

Whoah, very cool about the successful update! Let's just hope someone will come up with some way to eventually convince these drives to think they are full-blown plextors. Then CloneCD will work with them (unless they happen to do so already).

=)

subpar

mrVW,

Do you see a "Plextor performance" with the 1.07 firmware? Are you getting 32x DAE? Any difference as far as you call tell?

Way to go Wedesdo and Mr. VW! This deal just gets better and better all the time.

I think these thing will start to disappear even faster now ;-)

The name of the drive stays the same but the firmware gets updated. It now does 32x DAE, I just did it with audiocatalyst. I am a happy customer. Thanks guys.

I'm assuming the DAE is perfect (no pops or clicks)? If it is that's awesome. I have a backordered plextor at buy.com and it looks like I'm gonna have to cancel that.

Mr. VW,

Saw the link on your site to Deja about 1.05, and 1.06 firmware update problems. It sounds like some people already have reported that they have 1.06 on their iomegas.

That being the case Wedesdo, would you be interested in putting together a 1.04 patch for us as well?
