Hello,

since i was in the market for a usb and possibly firewire cd-rw i found the below deal:

NECX/Gateway Predator Product Page
$199.99 w/ free shipping
$20 of $149 (found various places)
$50 rebate from iomega

total= $129.99

i'd recommend getting a firewire card and the optional adapter but that's just for my needs.

edit. when i went thru shopper.cnet.com, the shipping was free but when i stripped out the referrer the shipping was gone. FYI.

I had the first model USB CDRW they put out, and it was a solid (if slow) performer for me. I played with a Predator at CompuCrap awhile back, and you would have to treat this drive very gently to avoid breakage. Anyone have this drive and want to comment?

I would not recommend this drive to households with small children, as you can imagine the outcome. I would equate it with a Notebook's CD drive as to how careful you need to be with it, just so you know. If and when USB v2.0 is fully supported by W2K remains to be seen, especially with Firewire getting set to make a huge throughput jump, but even at 4x I'm sure this is the Tortoise that will win the race for an external drive.
