Iomega (Plextor) 16x10x40x CDRW ~$129 Buy.com (coupon, rebate)

The $50 rebate is good for this drive until sometime in 2002! It's all a good deal now, but i'm going to wait awhile and get a better price for the drive and use the rebate since it's valid for quite a while.

Well someone has to find out if it is a rebadge, if it is, then it is a great deal cuz they don't last. I hope ppl remember what happen with the Iomega 12x that were rebadge plextors. They eventually were replaced by another company (not plextor) making the deal cold. I think it is important to get in on this deal ASAP once it is confirmed that these are rebadge plextor that you can flash back to a plextor drive.

I included the links in the original post to show this is a rebadged Plextor. Also, the only other rebadged Plextor from Iomega is the 12x10x32 drive and they are ALL rebadged Plextor's. Anyone who says different is thinking of the 12x4x32 drive which had several manufacturer's but none of which were Plextor. Try looking at: CDRinfo.com, they have lots of good info. Goodluck.

I suggest everyone who bought this drive from Buy.com and had it shipped from Miami, FL check their credit card statements immediately. I used a CC that is never used to purchase the drive and guess what, a few days after I'm charged from Buy.com, unauthorized charges of over $1k appeared on my account charged at restaurants, stores, etc in Miami, FL. I'm not saying the people who stole my CC number is working for Buy.com but my suspicions aren't exactly invalidated given that I never use my card and the charges are from the same place as where my drive was shipped from (Miami, FL). Caveat emptor.

ResearchEverything - not ALL the 12X10X32 Iomega's were Plextor's. Iomega started using Sanyo's at the beginning of 2001 (b/c I got one and ended up returning it and finding a "correct" iomega/plextor. Although after I got mine from Cramp USA I stopped following the thread so I can't say if for some reason they switched back to Plextor or no...

Just my .02

Though i do believe that these (the 16's) are Plextor's (just ordered one) Fyi - just wanted to clarify that older issue - no biggie - focus on the CURRENT HOT DEAL!!!

Thanks for all the info - in all of the related threads 🙂

WRONG. The 12x4x32 could have been Sanyo drives, but the 12x10x32 drives are all Plextor. You can call Iomega and verify. geesh. Still a great deal. This post should be locked. Good luck.
