Not to rain on your parade, but...

let's see:

4 64Mb Mr Flash Smart Media ( I have a SM camera, but the same calculation works for CF) @$26 each (plus shipping) = $104 for 256Mb of storage. And, I can use them in my camera.

Iomega has some good ideas, but sometimes their a little late, IMHO, not to mention somewhat expensive. See the other thread for the Click PCMCIA drive for $20, but it's $10/40Mb for each disk.

I don't think you get th point.A 250 meg zip disk is $12! I take several hundred shots at a time.As for the 64 meg cards,I use 128 meg compact flash, but still use my Fotoshow. You can take your Fotoshow with you to family functions.Hook it to the TV and show a slideshow of your pics!It might NOT be for you,but for me it is great! I go to trade shows, and it is handy to show off my products! I am a photographer specializing in web page photos for several car dealers.Just try showing these pics on a laptop with a media card.I hook the Fotoshow up and they get to see my work, large screen! Several dealers have purchased their own Fotoshows, and do a slideshow of their cars on the tv in the lounge areas. So if you have a little more knowledge of a product first, then I will listen to you!

The FotoShow is actually a decent product. Iomega discontinued it to narrow their product line due to their recent financial troubles. I own the device and it is quite handy if you are on the road often and take many digital camera photos. If your camera is a high res one (2+ Megapixel) and you like to take high quality JPEG or uncompressed TIFs, this can be particularly handy. You can actually travel without your laptop and end up storing as many photos as you have spare Zip100 or Zip250 disks.

If you are on the road, you can review the day's photos on your hotel room TV, for example. It is also great for sharing photos with people gathered around a TV in a living room. I have a wide-screen TV and the results are quite pleasing, although they are downsampled. The main cons is that the speed for photo processing is a bit slow, especially with Zip100 disks.

The fact that it doubles as a normal Zip250 drive when connected to a computer via USB is a bonus.

Hope that helps any fence-sitters about this. This device does what it needs to very well. Not having to carry a laptop around when you take tons of pictures is a huge bonus. The need for these devices may be outmoded when digital cameras use MMC/CF/SmartMedia flash media that has capacities of 1GB and above at low price points.
