Is it true that Iomega CDRW drives are actually made by Plextor?
I heard this from a friend at work.

If it is true, are there any reasons why the drive shouldn't function as well as a plextor as far as burn quality and the ability to burn protected CDs goes?

I know that some of the 12/10/32 were made by plextor. I had bought one in december of 2000 and it was quite a deal at that point. I dont think all of them are made by plextor.

You may want to check here.

I still have mine that I grabbed for $99 through the CompUSA deal.

It's a great drive. Though performance lags as compared to the latest drives out there now, it's still a solid drive.
