I believe you should get a receipt showing the date you buy the drive at B&M store.

If this is the case, then there is a rebate valid for purchasing between Jan 01 - Mar 31 2001 on IOMEGA website.

I'm gonna try today and let y'all know.

Latham NY B&M was emphatic that they could not do this though their shelves were chock full of the drives. Jr manager spent some time on phone with store General Manager and answer was no.
I'm of course referring to filling my web site order with in store stock.

good luck

I called the Broadway and 57th each day and their computer keeps telling them they have 5 in stock and told me to come in...then they said they don't have it when I get there. Apparently their computer inventory system SUCKS!...but I live only a block away anyways...otherwise...

My raincheck expires in 14 days (Jan. 15/2001)...what happens then...anyone know?

IF, during the raincheck time they have not received the item - THEN, you are entitled to a like product at YOUR option (same priced product tho) Sort of like a in-store pricematch. If you go to a manager they can (usually will) extend the date.

I went to both CompUSA's in Pittsburgh (where Lumpy claimed to get his) and brought my web order (which was placed at 12:31 am on the Sunday of the sale) and the email backorder status. The customer service rep said no way. I asked to speak to the store manager...he said no way. I told him someone else had done it and he said that was a load of hooey. He said that he has been there for the last week and there is no way for them to fill an internet order, there was no way for them to cancel my internet order or change its status in any way, and that the sale was over and they could not sell it at that price. I tried that at both stores in the Pittsburgh area.

That was 4 people at two different stores and they didn't even come close to considering filling the order. This is a load of bologna...they're not doing it, don't waste your time guys...unless you have a raincheck, I guess.

I restate my former prophesy: we will never see these drives. They will be in perpetual backorder until they are cancelled. All their stores have been fully restocked long ago and yet somehow they can't fill any internet orders....fishy.

Went to my B&M with all the paper work as described here. The female CSR said I could not get the drive that way. I then waited like 15 minutes to talk to the manager (aka SuperDork) only to be shot down. Apparently, they have no control over the online part of their business (heard the same crap at Staples about 40 times). I asked what that had to do with filling my CompUSA order...your one big company...his response was I could walk in everyday with a new print of that 'email' and get a drive for that price. They have NO way of changing the online status. Needless to say after a 75 minute drive and 30 minute lecture from CompLosers I was ready to rip somebody's head off. I think I had the manager ready to crap his pants.

They are right. CompUSA stores and their online store have a different inventory. They will not give you and order from online in their stores. If anyone got it this way it is through corrupt or stupid personel! (Damit...I wish they were stupid where I shop!):)

I went in to Fountain Valley, CA and they had one left. The rest were all 12x4x32. The manager was really cool about it and let me get the drive for $129. I think it all really depends on the manager because they rung it up like a price match.

Damn, oh well the next closest CompUSA would require me to stay overnight in a motel. Not worth it, I'll just wait.

Went to the Mission Viejo store and no deal. They had at least 6 in stock. Took me 30 minutes to finally talk to a manager and they wouldn't do it. He did offer to sell them to me at full price though.

COMPUSA Sucks !!! (at least so far)

What a waste of time for me today to disappoint myself.

Talked with Manager, showed him my proof, he read it thoroughly and then told me he didn't think he had received any shipment in lately (This is "San Bruno" one where it's been reported by our fellow that they had got a new shipment in a couple days ago).

He then went to punch in item # and I could see something like 17 in stock.
Interestingly, he, in a sudden, tried to turn the monitor off my sight so that I wouldn't know what they have).

Finally, he turned back to me and said "Well, we did receive a shipment...BUT......those were all bought by people who pre-paid".

Guess, I'm luck out on this deal..and I'll never see the drive come through my door.

Even though the COMP-PukeSA website lists availability at 2-5 days, their phone CSR's are still saying it's backordered and no available ETA. Call me pessimistic, but we're never going to see these drives.

If I felt confident that CompUSA.com was going to ship my order. I would go to my local store and purchase one at $279.99.

When I received my drive from CompUSA.com I would return it to the B&M store for full credit.

But I have had orders cancelled by Staples to many times. I know that this is CompUSA, but I have little or no confidence that they will deliver.

I called Compusa for laughs this am. Was told that they are getting (and shipping) drives every day. Also, no need to be concerned about rebate request filing deadline (1/31)as receipt will show original order date (so how does that extend the filing deadline? Rebate is processed by Young America, not internally i.e. Staples). If I don't get this by next week, I think I'm gonna cancel rather than risk losing the thirty bucks.

I just check my cc activity online, a pending charge from compusa is no longer there. It was there for several days after my order on 12/31.

Hmmfff, do you smell something?

Peetoeng:

I don't think credit card companies can just mysteriously remove a charge - unless your account activity online shows authorizations - without issuing a credit.

Salespeople at CompUSA or other stores should not be considered dirt just because you want a good deal. You may know more than them. Big deal. You may or may not get them to honor the online price, but don't think its ok to intimidate people and then come to this forum and brag about it.

I too ordered the drive online Dec.31. Shown to be "In Stock" at the time of ordering, later turned to back ordered. Last email showed 3-4 weeks, yet a phone call made a few days ago said 4-6 weeks. Could someone please explain where they ship from (when ordering online)? I thought I read something that it ships from the nearest store in your area (or something to the like). CompUsa has this feature where by typing in your zip code, shows the availability of a particular item in your general area. Nearest store to me would be Hauppauge NY. One day it may show Out Of Stock, the next, Limited Quantity. I've tried the phone number shown for the store, but that proved useless (can't get a human being). Should my local store supposingly have them "In Stock", shouldn't CompUsa.com (online) fullfill my order, and have my local store ship it to me? I'd hate to constantly make daily trips, only to find them 'out of stock', when the web site may show 'limited quantity' (in stock).

I went to pick up mine today in the Irving, TX store.
They had one left on the shelf when I'd left there.

I brought the printed receipt and my email printed out as well.
Initially, he told me to buy it for full price, then call in and have
the difference credited back to my credit card. I told him I didn't want
to go that way in case they denied me the refund.

I had the rep call the number in the email for me, cancel my order
himself, then sell it to me for $129.99 + tax.

I'm a happy camper.

I went to the Sunset Hills, MO CompUSA B&M to see if they had any left. I brought my email, etc. and was told that CompUSA.com and CompUSA are different, etc. I think I'll just go back tomorrow and try someone else. Hell, if I had known this store was 2 miles from my new apartment I would have walked on up on New Year's Eve.

Replying to self....how...schizophrenic. Anyway, if any of you live in the St. Louis area, I went to the Ballwin, MO CompUSA and the manager there was really nice and let me get a drive for 129.99, cancelled my online order, etc. There were 5 or 6 on the shelf when I left.
