First Deal!

If the free 40x cd-rom is out of stock at CompUsa try this..Office Max has this on sale for 39.99 , NO rebate, back page of todays flyer(its like a mini catalog this week). CompUsa has the same drive for that price AFTER 20 dollar rebate. CompUsa should honor the office Max add and give you the drive for 39.99 at the register. After rebate its then 19.99..Not bad for a 56x drive.

Are these drives good drives? The Memorz 48x one wasn't all that great and I am in the market for one.

Don't waste your money on these drives. Over a year ago, I got a 40x IoMagic drive for 19.99 after rebate and it was the worst POS I ever bought from Compusa. Turned out my drive was a rebranded BTC drive. To make a long story short... the POS .. seldom worked when i wanted it to, scratched all the cds I put in it, and couldn't read a cd-r without having a panic attack whenever it decided to work. After two months... I chucked the drive, but at least I got my rebate check.

there is an old saying.......... you get what you pay for.

I like a deal like everyone else, but especially with computer equipment in general, and especially scsi cards, hard drives, and cd roms, you get what you pay for. If you want a good drive, its not very likely you will get it for free after rebate.

Same here two times tried IO magic. It was IO i.e. Into the case, and out of the case. Same story as Ewu.

I got mine..I'm just waiting for my Tekram mobo to arrive ! I can't beleive its THAT bad, but it is true you get what you pay for. The drive has Digital out in back, being retail item it comes with an ide cable and an analog audio cable and is 56x. For 19.99 this is not a bad deal.

BTW, it is an I/O Magic rebate for CompUsa purchase only.

I own a I/O Magic 40x cd-rom drive. I have had it for a year now. NO PROBLEMS whatsoever! I can even burn cd's from this drive to my new Yamaha CD burner (and no coasters yet!)!!!Maybe I am the only one with good luck?

JackMDS, that doesn't apply to their Vortex2 card. I'm running one right now with no problems. Sounds great to me, but I'm no computer audiophile either (I leave that for the living room).
