Invisible Start Menu

My dad's desktop runs Windows XP Home.

For some reason when you click on the Start Menu it comes up transparent. You can see the outline but you can see right through it to the desktop.

Also, when I click on the File/Edit or other drop down menus they also have the same problem.

Any ideas? This is pretty annoying!

u seem to be having 'transperancy' even on xp ;-)

btw, have you installed any theme packs ? bcoz quite possibly either your system files appear to have got corrupted or maybe you need to get some of your dll's re-regd.
 
i dont know what has been installed on that computer - i never use it.

what can i do about the system files? how can i fix this?
