Invisible Fence Question, would really appreciate any advice

Hi! I bought a preowned Invisible Fence model ICT 802 and it has taken me all day to get the wiring installed and the transmitter to perform properly for the most part. I have one BIG remaining problem. I can increase the distance between the wire and the warning beep, but the shock is happening simultaneously with the beep (6 feet out from the wire). Is there a way to fix this, a setting adjustment that I'm missing, anything? Why would the shock be happening 6 feet out from the wire simultaneously with the beep? It obviously can't be used this way, because there is no warning for the dog, just immediate shock/beep. This is supposedly a newer model, titanium computer collars (I have two). Any advice is appreciated. I have $550 in it so far! Thanks, Susan

I doubt that many on this forum have a clue as to what you are referring to. I do know what an "invisible" electronic fence is and how dogs can be trained to "obey" it. My understanding is that there is an adjustmant that has to be made to vary the time interval between signal and zap. If you don't have the manual which explains how that is done, I suggest you contact the OEM by phone or go to their website. You may have found the reason why it was sold.

Those things are quite painful even for a dog. My dad's friend got one for his dog, put it on the lowest setting, and tried it out himself to see how bad it was. He refused to ever put it on his dog after that.

So just a warning... your dog may be frightened to death of the outdoors entirely fairly soon.

And that is why there is an extensive training period required before turning on the "juice". I.e., the contacts on the collar should be initially covered with tape.

I would agree on balance - dogs mreally need a harmless run and/or accompanied walks, etc.
