i thought carp were really boney.

they should take a baseball team or martial arts class out there and work on some drills.

😀

i guess im glad I don't eat fish, my fish supply isn't threatened! 😀
but seriously, that does suck and hopefully they discover a way to control the numbers of these things.
and people need to learn not to introduce foreign creatures into natural ecosystems. There is a reason things happen, and in a natural ecosystem, any problems that are caused by natural and native species, will surely be whisked away.

We have those in the Missouri river. Last year a local DJ rode a jet ski from KC to St Louis and was concerned about getting knocked of by one of these.

He carried his samurai sword while he rode thinking he'd be able to defend himself.

Anyone have a youtube link? It won't load in Firefox (blank page) and IE says it "cannot download video.ws.asx from dynamic.cnn.com.

They are extremely boney and even after being cooked they still retain a bit of that fishy smell. It's quite popular with a few asian cultures though.

I personally don't have the patience to pick through the bones. Once got a bone stuck down my throat eating one and that was the last time I ever touched carp.

Wow, that was a great video. I've seen a carp before in a lake swimming maybe 5 feet from where I was standing. That was one big fish. I can only imagine what it would be like to have one fly in the air and hit me. It definetly looks like fun though....i'm game 🙂

I think this invasive carp originated from China, where they are considered a delicacy. If there is money in catching these annoying fish and selling them, maybe we can control the fish population.

That reporter was such a pansy when the fish hit him. He acted like it broke his rib or something.

I understand he was being dramatic for the sake of ratings, but sheesh

Also, depending on the water, they don't even taste like normal fish.

They're a garbage fish around here and we just use 'em for bait if we catch 'em.

How about using them for pet food or fertilizer? I suppose the challenge is how to harvest the carp cheaply and without harming the native species.

I'm not an expert on petfood, so I don't know if they'd just grind up the bones into the feed or what. That's the whole problem with the fish. They don't taste very good and they're extremely boney, so it's not worth the effort for the meat. I could see if they were delicious, then it'd be worth it to tediously debone them.

Don't know a thing about fertilizer either.
