Invasion of Privacy?

Is photographing people who rent porn and sending them postcards an invasion of privacy?

It's 2:30 on a Thursday afternoon, and inside a windowless adult video store a dozen people are perusing XXX-rated movie titles. Pastor Jim Norwood surmises this because he has photographed the customers' cars in the parking lot, carefully adjusting his digital camera so that each license plate is in focus.

Each car owner will soon get a postcard in the mail from Norwood's Oakcrest Family Church. On the front will be a color photo of their vehicle in the video store parking lot. On the back will be a note: "Observed you in the neighborhood. Didn't know if you were aware there is a church in the area ? please stop by next time. We'd love to have you visit."

Yahoo! article

(I think it is)

didn't read the article but how does he find out who the card belongs to? DMV records are usually no public info.

rks:

At least once a week, a volunteer traces the license plate numbers to the owners of the cars using an online service that searches an automotive database for a fee. In Texas, license information is a matter of public record. So far, 300 postcards have been mailed, Norwood said.

Just because that person not some kinda hollyroller freek, and can make up his own mind.Doesn't give the Pastor the right to stalk people out of a parking lot.

Might be afraid there's one movie out there ,with him and the alterboy(s).LOL

Somebody needs to take a stack of smutty flyers to that church on Sunday and handbill every car in the parking lot. "Two for one XXX rentals if you show your Norwood's Oakcrest Family Church hymn book."

Ethically, yes. Legally, no.

wouldn't one expect a church (especially) to be ethical?

What is considered ethical by one denomination isn't the same as what is considered ethical by another. You can't tar all Christians with the same brush (except about their belief in God/Jesus, the major points of their religion). Ethics differs though.

That guy is a moron. He is undermining any potential outreach by his or any church into the public by pulling this stunt.

Speaking as a Christian, this guy is way off base. If he really wanted to reach out to people, this is not the way to go about it.

"Turnabout is fair play"

Find some costumed porn with christian / biblical themes and put that on the handbills 🙂

Thank you!

(While I am not a christian I was raised one, and this seemed very wrong to me.)

no invasion, as its a "public" place. could it be considered harassment? couldnt the owner of the store take legal action since he owns the parking lot?

this is why christianism and all other religions are fvckin stupid. fvck em all.

Considering you made up the word "christianisim" to replace the actual word, christianity, don't be surprised if most of us don't consider you an authority on what's stupid

As far as this pastor the only way I'd stop by his church is to jam his postcard up his ass. I understand where he's coming from but he's going way too far.

I don't think it's a privacy issue. I think he should mind his own business and do something more productive with his time though.
