Anybody know how to fix this???

thanks for all replys

A laptop should be recovered with the manufacturer's recovery disk as the very nature of their ability to sleep etc. requires a unique layout of the HDD . . . and yes, PM8 will mess it up.

some laptop makers are starting to put the recovery files on a hidden system partition instead of just giving you a CD. To me its the ultimate in cheapness. If your HDD crashes or you mess up the partitions with Partition magic etc. you are screwed, and then begging them to send you a CD version which they usually want you to pay for.

What version of Windows are you planning to install, if ME/XP/2k then you may be able to use the installer to delete any existance of a bad partition and reformat.

Alternatively you could download a free boot disk program and make a bootable CD. I had this with an IBM 8.4gb hard drive once and partition magic 4, but I was able to reboot and reformat...I think with Fdisk.
