invalid partition table??? HELP!

I was just asked by someon I know today to attempt to fix his computer, so I fixed it up, and it was runinng windows and all when he requested I partition the drive for him. SO I parition the drive using fdisk, then we use the recovery cd, and now that I reboot the computer, it says invalid parition table, we were reinstalling windows 98 onto this comp.

try to format the HDD with manufacturer's utilities

I hope they don't put recovery data on a hidden partition (Compaq did it all the time)

If you can't get FDISK to do anything to it try using another partition program, there have been a couple times when it gave me a bunch of errors but I could partition it with my Mandrake install CD.
