"intranet" help

hi all! i've been RTFMing and checking out tutorials on setting up apache server. this is my first time ;-) i use roadrunner and i think port80 is blocked since i can't seem to access my site. so i thought i would do an intranet. apache is installed and running... my question is, how do i type "intranet" into the browser from any computer on my lan, and bring up my site?

I'm assuming that you're using linux. AFAIK, you need to set up a DNS server. I personally used bind (executable is named), but a simpler dns server for your needs (Again, I'm assuming small scale) might be dnsmasq. Hope this helps. If you can give a little more specifics, I can be of more help.

I was going to look for some tutorials on BIND. But I'll look into dnsmasq too. thanx a lot krazikid!

Here is the link for dnsmasq: http://thekelleys.org.uk/dnsmasq/doc.html. It is a really stripped down dns server, it mainly does forwards, and will serve the names within your hosts file. BIND will give you a lot more flexibility, but on a small scale, dnsmasq should be fine.
