Good hackers, probably.

Just a few years ago, there was a fairly detailed article about how vulnerable our electrical grid is. A lot of substations were still using dial-up modems for communication.

I'm sure there are some systems that already have malware loaded and ready to be used by state actors (e.g. PRC)

Keep in mind even script-kiddie level attacks still work on many targets that should know better. Things like SQL injection...

Saw one about a guy who basically wrote a program and was able to used his phone to hack into a plane - which was simulated. He said though there really wasn't anything stopping him from doing it in real life.

I'm sure there are people who could, but committing a federal crime on a whim is generally a bad idea. Now, if there was some incentive to cover the substantial risk (like a large sum of money), that changes things.

Right now there is a huge push to implement analog systems to reduce the effects of these types of attacks.


I am not the only person that questions does everything need to connected to the internet.

Not really. I've been designing analog systems for quite a while and, in some ways, they're easier than digital systems. What's hard is learning how to do it, but that's another matter entirely.
