Interview with Shawn J. White of Cyberwings

i think he thinks he's being honest, but he's delusional. what happened to CW is 99% caused by his actions or lack of actions in this case. he needs to learn how to run a business, plain and simple.

my opinion.

CN: If you could choose three things that make a successful web hosting service what would they be and why?

I think he fergot #1.

UPTIME!

Whatta freakin idiot, got this makes me hate him even more.

You have to wonder if Compu Notes chased down Shawn for the interview? Or, if Shawn (in need of attention) sought out Compu Notes and begged to be interviewed? My view is that he probably begged to be interviewed.

Growth is good, but don't lose site of what made you in the first place. Cyberwings never lost site of it
Maybe, Cyberwings never lost sight, but they did lose their site for a while, so this is completely un-true.

CN: What does the future hold for Shawn White?
SW: Cyberwings for the immediate future. Plain and simple. I have not left this project yet, and I am not planning on leaving this project until it's seen through to whatever finish, or revival, is in store for us in the future. If there is one thing I have never been a victim of it's a lack of self-esteem and self-determination. It was that determination that grew Cyberwings and created the community with everyone's help, and it's that same determination and faith that will do it again. I'm staying right here until it's over. Whatever over means.
He claims that he doesn't lack self-esteem or self-determination, but this last question kind of tells me that he lacks self-confidence. He's unsure about the future. He has no plan.

Personally, I've never had anything hosted by Cyberwings - and will never use Cyberwings for any future hosting.

Lol.... what sort of interview of Shawn White doesn't ask why he decided to lie to the public about the services he was providing (servers are moving, technical issues, can't connect cables, working all night and day in the new DC.... sigh). Connie Chung has more bite than this.

Folks,

Read the FAQ on how we do interviews. It's right there. It's the way we always do it.

We send ten questions and then print the answers unedited.

I approached Shawn in June about doing an interview then again on Labor Day when he appeared in the IRC room.

Feel free to send him a list of your own questions and print his answers. Regardless of what you think you have questions asked and Shawn's answers, his own words, right there.

Some decent questions but they definitely could have been more tough. I wanted to hear specific, pointed responses to questions about several lies of his.

I'd like to see what he has to say when you ask him why he doesn't sell one of his multiple houses or cars to pay his employees or refund his customers.

That interview was hilarious.
CN: If you could choose three things that make a successful web hosting service what would they be and why?

SW: A community feeling is key.
SB (SoyBomb): Funny I always thought having alot of bandwidth available was more important. I want to be sending my data out at blazing speeds, not hugging the accountant.

SW: Strategic, competitive & amazing pricing plans.
SB: No, thats what you look for in a pack of ramen noodles when you have no money. When I need reliable hosting I'm not expecting "amazing" prices.

SW: An accessible owner.
SB: No its not. I don't care who the owner is or care to speak with him, I just want hosting services. If I have a technical or billing problem I don't want to wait until he has time to sort it out, I want it fixed immediately by anyone. My boxes uptime is ~150 days with the last downtime being from an equipment upgrade. Screw the owner, give me reliability.

I don't know what the compunotes site is, but it looks like an advertising medium to me.......

CN: The current Cyberwings is a shell of what it was in the past. What is the future of Cyberwings at this point?

SW: The only thing I ever said was that I could never guarantee "no growing pains", but I truly did believe we would make it. To this very day I get a lot of emails from people giving us their support. Asking how they can help. Telling me how they wish Cyberwings could get back to where it once was. I will not make any guarantees about the future of Cyberwings. I will say, however, that I have received enormous support from a particular group of people on the Internet who are willing to do just about anything to help us revive Cyberwings. The level of community feeling & involvement, the passion about Cyberwings that existed and still does to this very day, was truly, and still is, amazing. Granted, we are currently at a "make it" or "break it" point - but only time, and the support of the people who supported Cyberwings originally, will predict the outcome.

growing pains??? more like completely shutting down with no notice. hmm. lying, false promises, lack of communication.. and i wonder who this group of supporters are.. probably just Shawn, Shawn, and Shawn...

sigh... when you know you're growing too fast, why were you so whole-heartedly trying to sell zap5x non-stop and double/triple zap5x and buy 1 get 1 free accounts. just makes you sound extremely dishonest. =(
