so you are saying I should ditch the pants?

I just tend to feel more comfortable and relaxed when I'm wearing something like sneakers, jeans, and a nice shirt. Even when everybody else interviewing is wearing suits or business casual.

I don't know if I'm doing something right or if I'm just lucky, but I've gotten offers from several major tech companies after having shown up underdressed to the interviews.

its call center work, so no face to face. My current company (large call center) has basically no dress code. I interviewed in a shirt, tie, dress pants and dress shoes and I was overdressed. I'm not worried about being overdressed...just don't know how to address the winter part of the problem.

And you really took the wind out of my sales. Being a psychic was my fall back plan. Next thing you're going to tell me that porn star is out of the question too??!??!?!?!!
Doesn't matter what the dress code of the company is, always wear a suit and tie to interview unless they specifically say otherwise.

Gamestop requires a blazer now?

I wish cool places like that paid enough. TBH, I miss retail. I miss getting to play with all the cool stuff as soon as it came out.

I blame all you nerds who refuse to pay retail.

Here in the purple mushroom head of America's Wang it is actually entirely acceptable to do the whole interview thing without a sports jacket/blazer/suit coat. We either wear short or long sleeve shirts + tie and pants and nice shoes down here.

I interviewed about 25 folks last year and only 3 of them actually wore the full jacket. Nearly everyone had on a dress shirt with a tie though.

It really is too hot 80% of the year to actually wear that thing anywhere.

Looks fine to me. Not crazy about the tie, but I don't like many ties to begin with.

The casting couch? You don't need clothes for that.

You'll be fine. What you may want to do is, don the ensemble, and walk around to be comfortable in it. You don't seem to be the type that has much exposure to suit and tie, and that can make some people uncomfortable.

Try it out, walk around, strike a pose.

I agree alky. I hate the damn things and have never found one I liked. It was either that or a plain one...and only gangsters wear plain silk ties right?

Whatever suit you pick, make sure you feel confident when wearing it.

I've just got done doing rounds of interviews at 5 companies (including one with 8 different people from 10am to 3pm) and you need a suit that will make you feel confident regardless the time of day or weather.

Also, make sure to practice your oratory skills, your answers to questions, and your past experience before going into every interview.

I had to wear a shirt and tie every day for 6 years. While its not my choice of attire, its not foreign.

I'm a sale guy so I'm basically a chameleon. I do ok in most situations...the one exception is when I'm forced to talk about myself. Hence why I hate interviews.

True story - I made fun of my now boss when I interviewed. A few months later he said "well, either this guy is incredibly stupid, or brave".

being overdressed with a suit and tie is the conservative choice; however if you know the culture or observe alot of people (especially prospective peers) dressed say, business casual, I don't think you're going to lose an interview just because you dress business casual level....

I can almost guarantee unless you are looking for some $10-15/hr job, showing up in business casual will have you off HR's list regardless if that's the job culture.

Most places that you'd where a suit to the interview are business casual during the work week.
