Interview in two hours... Any last minute tips?

L

Lola

This is my first "real" interview in a corporate setting.
I had to take an IQ test, personality test, etc and now i am getting ready to go to the first interview.

Any ideas that would help me would be greatly appericated!

Thanks! :)

What's the company and the position you are applying for? Just don't get too nervous. And good luck with the interview.

Go to the bathroom before you start. Sounds simple but it's hard to look comfortable when you need to go. I just interviewed a guy who forgot, he looked like he was in agony.

Don't wear perfume. Lose all the fancy jewelry and like Abel said, relax. Just be yourself. Moreover, if this is the first interview don't talk about money. When I interview and the person asks about the pay and such in the first interview I immediately put a line through their name. Money should be talked about after an offer has been made. From there you rebut if necessary. Talking about benefits during the first interview is ok. You want to know what the company has to offer.

And most of all..good luck Rebecca. :)

Also, if they ask you what you liked or didn't like about your last job by all means don't talk about how much your past co-workers or boss's made you angry. Anger during an interview is a quick personality no no.

Always maintain eye contact unless looking ONLY to the right to think. Never look left, means you are lieing.

Think about an answer before you respond.

try to talk about things that strike a personal interest with the interviewer, be it related to the job or not. usually, there are a lot of qualified applicants so try to set yourself apart by being personable and showing you are easy to work with (make them like you for other reasons).

that is SO interesting. I had no idea looking to the left meant you are lying!
thanks for that tidbit!

Thank you all for your helpful info!

I just hope that they won't ask me any far out totally bizarre questions! I am pretty good with answering, but this is very new territory to me!

Is there anything i should NOT do, (Beyond the obvious?)

Plus, i do believe a woman will be interviewing me. I have talked to her several times and we have a nice rapport already so i hope this will be a good experience!

I was partly messing with you (because I don't remember which way it is...one way is thinking and the other is lieing.) But there is a way to tell if somebody is lieing depending on what direction they look.

It's all subconcious/body language stuff...you can use it to your advantage to take control of any situation/meeting.

Lot of places will make you take psychological profiling tests as well as credit checks.

When they give you a chance to ask questions about the company at the end take them up on the offer. Ask at least 3.

If they ask about weaknesses don't just start listing them. Point out some things that you are trying to get better at.

Looking to the left means you are constructing, not necessarily lying; and a left handed person would have an opposite read. Looking down and to the left is also a sign of recollection, not lying. There is much more to lying than eye cues, and they are difficult to read. At most, eye cues should be a tip off that the person might be lying. One thing further, looking straight ahead with unmoving eyes is also a sign of accessing and can be read as focused construction of an idea.

I personally wouldn't bother going to an interview if even it was a psychological profile, but that's only my opinion. What I'm talking about is an actual IQ test which I would think could be used as potentially discriminatory?

I have taken tests in the past, but it wasn't stated as an IQ test. Perhaps OP didn't mean it as though it were an official IQ test.
