Make and keep constant eye contact throughout the interview. Be sincere, dont try to overdo it and really listen to what the interviewer is saying.
Make them want to hire you.

It's a retail job, he's not interviewing for a job at Microsoft. I once wore shorts and a weird looking button up shirt with sandals to a retail job interview and got it without trying.

Target is really anal about being late. You need to submit vacation 60-90 days in advance if you want it to get back to you.

As for questions, it is all really lame stuff like "if a good friend of yours was stealing, would you turn him in?".

That one's the easiest one they'll ask: Tell them that you don't make friends with theives, but that yes, you would turn in a theif. Add to that that you'd love nothing more than to bust anyone you saw shoplifting, because thieves just make problems for the majority who work hard to make an honest living.

As for alternatives, because yes, you'll probably tire of the job far more quickly than you'd wish, I must say the restaurant biz is not too bad, if it's the right place. Bus-persons get tipped out--really helpful bussers get tipped out better. If you're personable, try moving up to being a server at the earliest opportunity--then it's you earning the tips directly. (Tips are great because you, not the boss in the office, are the one in control of what you make--work hard and do a good job, and you make a lot of money; slack off, and you don't make s--t.)

Update: Went in this morning, interview was easy. It looks like I'm going to be doing a combination of floor and stock/inventory in the back room. The called the inventory something "puller", I guess you just scan stuff that they need and pull it off the storage shelves into those big bins for stocking. I'll learn more about it at orientation on Wednesday. Everyone that I've seen so far seemed really nice and friendly.

Mwahahahahaha! They got you right where they want you! Soon you'll be promoted to Mr. Target Store Floor Person Stocker, where the customers can see you and make fun of you. Before long, you'll be promoted again to Mr. Target Store Customer Greeter. Still, after that, you'll again be promoted to Mr. Target Store Shopping Carter Getter (<Bad 80s Singer> "Wheeling them in!!!"). After that, you'll be Mr. Target Store Register Ringer Person (<Bad 80s Background Girls> Ching ching ching here's your chaaange!)! Finally, after many long years, you'll be promoted to Mr. Target Store Electronics Department Supervisor, where you'll be closing the department every single night, including weekends and holidays. Congratulations! (<Bad 80s Singer> Mr. Overworked Target Stores Employeeeeee..... *fade out*)

Gotta love those Bud Light commercials. :D

My GF just excepted job offer from target as their Pharmacy Manager. I am impressed with the way they do things at target(compared to walmart and other places). They offered great benefits and kickass pay.

Wierd thing is even the pharmacist has to wear the RED T-shirt. lol.

Ive worked at target, hope you get good management.

Puller= Follows the LCD of his gun around. The gun will tell you to pull X number of somethings in aisle A box B. Problem is you have to scan each item in that box if there are more than one, until you find the right thing you are supposed to pull. Then you key how many you pulled, and if you pulled all of what was in the box.

It's a pretty easy job. I worked the night shift with a bunch of guys from Mexico. It wasnt hard work, or thinking work. I averaged 2x as many pulls as any of them, sometimes 3x as many. No opportunity for advancement (they often have team leaders, rank I II III, etc, but it really doesnt matter, and chance of getting III depends on if you have good management or not).

Anyway, may God have mercy on your soul

They dont really pay attention to what you wear, you could have nose rings, tatoos, be extremely overweight and theyll hire you! First thing is dont go to the interview. it is the gayest job you will ever have in your life. no kidding. After about 1-2 months of working there you will want to quit so you might as well save time and not go there at all. But if you are going to go through with the interview, they ask you why you think it would be fun to do the job your applying for, your past work experience. Just letting you know, you cant be more than 3 minutes late to your job.

Huh?
You mean like, you get fired if you're 3 mins late?

I live like 5 minutes away so that really won't be a problem.

he isn't joking. if you are late more than once in your first 90 days you are gone, no questions asked, EVEN IF YOU ARE SICK

I am not joking... I know this from experience.

Pharmacist != retail sales associate

Real high paying job != crappy minimum wage job

Vortex,
take the job if you need the money. If it sucks, you can always quit or you can look for something better while you are at least earning a paycheck.

but as somebody else said retail is crap no matter where you go. I still think target is better than walmart over all(weither you are sales associate or professional).

I obviously found this thread too late :).

When I first went in for the interview they told me I would be working with computers in the back. 3 months later I ask why Im not doing that, and he said the little scanner devices are computers.

Oh, and in the second interview where its a group setting, and the HR lady tells you to go out and get an item, and then come back and tell why you picked it, pick something like a 32" TV and say its because you thought you were getting it for free :)

man, I have a lot more I could post. Has anyone else worked the NIGHTSHIFT at target? Target = closed, but work still needs done heh.
