Interstate facts? How long are the dotted lines?

You know the dotted lines in the middle of the road? How long are those? 3ft? 4ft? 5ft?

Anyone know where I could find some stats on that? I need it for evidence 😀

"but judge, I counted only 20 3' lines (w/1' in between) each second as I drove, so it's impossible that I was going over 60 mph!!!"

http://www.dot.state.oh.us/spec/641.htm should have the information.

Ah, yes... here it is...
641.03 General. Lines shall be applied as solid, dashed or dotted stripes, either singly or in combination, as shown on the plans. Dashed lines shall be applied in a 12.0 m (40 foot) cycle consisting of a 3.0 m (10 foot) dash and a 9.0 m (30 foot) gap between dashes, unless otherwise shown on the plans. The Contractor shall use an accurate dashing mechanism, which is capable of being easily adjusted to retrace existing dashed markings or to apply new materials at the correct spacing. Dashed lines which are to be applied over plainly visible existing dashed lines shall begin within 150 mm (6 inches) of the beginning of the existing dash, unless otherwise directed by the Engineer. Dotted lines shall be applied in a 1.8 m (6 foot) cycle consisting of a 0.6 m (2 foot) dot and a 1.2 m (4 foot) gap between dots.

Sweet! Thanks!

I was actually told that the dashes were 15ft and the voids were 25ft. This was in a defensive driving couse about 12 years ago.

raised pavement markers are 40 ft. apart and 4" yellow lines are 30 ft. apart here in La. anyway (just like jw pointed out). but for turning lanes its 6' apart.

Depends on the state, most likely. That's probably true in Texas. However, Ohio's regulations say to use a 10 ft. dash and 30 ft. void...

We read a book about the future and in it they made billboards really long and stretched out because people drove so fast they had to make the ad "last"
