I've been with my super fly girlfriend for 3 years now. She's black. We grew up in an area that was primarily asian, so she took on a prototypical asian lifestyle from the get go, ie. 4.0, no drugs, no alcohol, extra curriculars up the wazoo; though she did put the moves on me in sophomore year of high school. I had known her two years prior, and we were good friends, so naturally said why not, let's give it a try. This wasn't in anyway due to the fact that she was super hot, of course. 😀

I'm chinese btw, and my parents *have* threatened to kick me out of the house at least ten times. I used to have weekly arguments with my mom junior/senior year of high school, to the point that it almost drove me to suicide. My GPA dropped .5, and I ended up at counseling weekly. My parents really f***ed up my life in high school. I don't hate them for it though. They just didn't realize that emigrating to the United States would involve OTHER ETHNICITIES. They figured they would live in San Francisco for the rest of their lives, but they didn't. They moved to San Jose when I was one, and things just developed.

Since my GPA plummetted to hell, I didn't get into many of my first choice colleges, so I ended up at UCSC. My girlfriend on the other hand, had her shiny 4.0, 1400 SATs, and got into all the colleges she applied to. So naturally, I expected her to go to Berkeley. We went on, barely talking the summer after HS, and I kind of just tried to forget about that portion of my life. The first day of school, she comes by my room and is like, "Hey.. you single? I live right across the hall." :Q

Yep. She's great. We are finishing up our 2nd year here now, and she's due to graduate next year. I'll be trailing a bit because CE is a biatch. But we do indeed plan to get married, regardless of what my parents think. Wahoo! Go me!

That is so beautiful. You got me choked up.

:Q

😉

It's hard to call hispanic a race since hispanic people can be white, black, indian. Hispanic merely means someone from a Spanish speaking country. Many Spanairds are white Europeans. Many Cubans and Puerto Ricans are black, indian or a mix. Most of central america is made up of a mix of white, black and indian.

So you don't think Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez, or Tyra Banks is hot?

for me, appreciating the beauty of a person objectively is NOT the same as being attracted to that person. i've known a lot of very beautiful women who i didn't have the iota of interest in because their personalities lacked soo much.

i personally have never been attacted to a non-asian woman.

If a person from Spain moved to the US, would he be considered white or Hispanic?

I think your question is more about different cultures? Kinda like my big fat greek weeding. If someone is americanized enough he/she get along with "white" people regardless of race.

Doesn't gwai lo mean white people?

haha. Yeah, "gwai lo" does mean white people. Actually, gwai means ghost. I guess when chinese people saw white people, they thought of them as white as a ghost. ghost people!

I'm white. My wife is black. Was an issue with our families when we first started dating but everyone is past that now. We'll be married two years at the end of July and have a wonderful 13 month old son.

We've gotten some looks and I had a strange comment from one of her friends, but no trouble otherwise.

It only becomes a problem when you let it become a problem. Fortunately, for my wife and I, are differences are mainly skin deep. We both like the same movies, music, activities, etc. So, no culture clash. Mostly we compliment each other.

Yeah, chill out. The truth is many people don't make that distinction, which just increases the number of ways people can be seen as different - i.e. rejected.

I'm married to a Korean. I've never had any problems with my in-laws or family, although I can't say the same thing about Korean society in general. Most people are cool, but some of the older men who think they have it all figured out will occasionally stare and one of my wife's rather stupid colleagues referred to our marriage as "a scandal."

Beautiful story -- thanks for sharing. 🙂

I don't get the joke.

An interracial marriage would be very, very hard for my family to deal with. An intercultural marriage would be even harder. I'm very set in my ways.

I'm open to it though.

You like a woman of a different race? Go for it. It's the 21st century, and despite certain parts of the country fighting to turn the clock back 100 years, I don't care.

To each their own.

To each their own?

"Each" implies one, and "their" implies more than one.

it's called the subjunctive. its a grammar point in english, spanish, and other languages.

tell me which is grammatically correct:

1) if i was a rockstar
2) if i were a rockstar

My wife is 1/4 black, 1/4 Mexican and 1/2 white. Makes her more interesting since she comes from a mixed background. One of her dad's brothers is married to a Taiwanese girl, a couple of her cousins on her mom's side are married to white girls, and of course my wife's mom (half black/half Mexican) is married to her dad, who is white. Everyone gets along famously. Needless to say, I have no problem with interracial marriage 😀

Certain people attract me... certain don't.

I tend to be attracted to woman of lighter skin, not in a racist way, but I can't control my attractions. It's an instinct. I don't really find black woman attractive... unless they have lighter skin and less pronounced features.

I tend to be attracted more toward white, latino, and asian woman. Some middle eastern types are nice too, but I find my taste fair picky when it comes to the person that I are going to spend my life with.

Asian and Hispanic women are way better looking than white women. I'm white, and I'm already tired of those girls. They all look the same, except for when you get close to them. Give me a Spanish broad over a white girl anytime. Plus, all white girls are stupid, it's a fact. And, if your parents and/or other members of your family look down on you cuz you are with someone who's not your "color" tell em to eat a d!ck. I don't know what kinda households some of you grew up in, but seriously those people are the losers regardless of their relation to you. The best post in the entire thread was this
am in one. My wife is Asian and I am white. Hardest thing to get used to is as Isla said, being looked down on by people you spend a lot of time with, the in-laws. I will never be good enough for them, but my wife and I are deliriously happy. The best thing I ever did was to just start laughing in their faces at whatever they said to me or about me behind my back. I guess it took away all their fun

That is awesome, seriously what kinda people can look themselves in the mirror and do that.

Yeah - relationships w/ blacks is kinda taboo in traditional asian culture. It's pretty weird. -- Oh yeah, YOU'LL ABSOLUTELY LOVE UCSC. It's great! I went to Cowell.
