Interracial Couple Banned From Kentucky Church

I think we are ignoring the real issues.

Let us realize that under the US constitution and the separation of church and State doctrine, the US government has no enforcement to tell church members the rules of their church, no matter how politically incorrect they are.

But then we hit a slippery slope, when said church claims property tax exertions and otherwise receives money from State and Federal funding, because they maintain they should be a tax exempt church. Yes we should all have a big problem with that crap.

Now if those bigots have the courage of their convictions, I have no problems with them paying property taxes on their property just like the rest of us.

Otherwise, lets call a spade a spade, those churches that ignore US civil rights laws should never be tax exempt. END OF STORY.

Church has never been about tolerance, acceptance, and anything else that Jesus actually taught.

Not true. Sure, there are some bad ones, but there are also some good ones. Just like everything else out there.

Of course ALL of them should be good ones...but sadly they are not.

While I can understand your position, you are also correct in saying the Constitution prevents such a thing. The reason churches are tax exempt is not because they are churches, but because they are non-profits.

Official statement from the demonination this church is a part of:

In the midst of controversy surrounding a Pike County church and their vote to ban interracial couples from becoming members of their church [original article], the National Association of Free Will Baptists have released a statement noting the contrary.
Below is the official statement regarding Gulnare Free Will Baptist Church:
From the National Association of Free Will Baptist For Immediate Release December 1, 2011
Free Will Baptist Executive Office Statement Regarding Interracial Couples Antioch, TN — Recently, the action of a Free Will Baptist church in the state of Kentucky raised questions regarding the position of the National Association of Free Will Baptists on interracial couples. This statement is intended to bring clarity to the subject.
The National Association of Free Will Baptists does not have an official policy regarding interracial couples because it has not been an issue in the denomination. The Free Will Baptist Treatise neither condemns nor disallows marriage between a man and woman of different races.
Free Will Baptists have historically championed the rights and dignity of all people, regardless of race. The denomination’s leadership in the abolition movement is evidence of that fact. Free Will Baptists currently spend millions of dollars each year to take the good news of Jesus Christ to people of every race. Many interracial couples are members of Free Will Baptist churches. They are loved, accepted, and respected by their congregations.
It is unfair and inaccurate to characterize the denomination as racist. It is our understanding that steps are being taken by the church in question to reverse its decision. We encourage the church to follow through with this action. Leaders from the local conference and state association in Kentucky are working with the church to resolve this matter.

Basically, it says the denomination has no official stance on the matter since there has never been a need for one...much like not having an official stance that water is wet (that last part is my addition). They are, though, going to talk to the local church to resolve the matter.

That last bit means they will either end their policy against interracial couples or they will have their charter revoked, removing them from the denomination.

i have found the bigger the church the farther from Jesus teaching it is.

anyway the story is rather unbelievable. i know its true but still.. ok i just don't get it.

I guess after going after the Gays, their next agenda will be mixed couples, then women, and finally to reenact slavery.
But seriously, it is amazing so many of these "people" can carry around a bible and not grasp one single teaching contained within.
But then you have to wonder... can they even read in the first place?
I doubt it...

Tax exempt laws are not free money from the state since they give up the right to politicking in exchange, and no matter how evil they may seem to you or me it is their right to be bigots and the best way to deal with them is to expose them for their bigotry and foolish behavior that contradicts the very bible they claim to follow.

Setting the IRS after them is a failure and a monumental breach of separation of religion from state that can have dire consequences,

We already have historical proof of these consequences and the results speak for themselves.

During the meeting in Washington, D.C., Weyrich went on to characterize the leaders of the Religious Right as reluctant to take up the abortion cause even close to a decade after the Roe ruling. "I had discussions with all the leading lights of the movement in the late 1970s and early 1980s, post–Roe v. Wade," he said, "and they were all arguing that that decision was one more reason why Christians had to isolate themselves from the rest of the world."
"What caused the movement to surface," Weyrich reiterated,"was the federal government's moves against Christian schools." The IRS threat against segregated schools, he said, "enraged the Christian community." That, not abortion, according to Weyrich, was what galvanized politically conservative evangelicals into the Religious Right and goaded them into action. "It was not the other things," he said.
Ed Dobson, Falwell's erstwhile associate, corroborated Weyrich's account during the ensuing discussion. "The Religious New Right did not start because of a concern about abortion," Dobson said. "I sat in the non-smoke-filled back room with the Moral Majority, and I frankly do not remember abortion ever being mentioned as a reason why we ought to do something."
During the following break in the conference proceedings, I cornered Weyrich to make sure I had heard him correctly. He was adamant that, yes, the 1975 action by the IRS against Bob Jones University was responsible for the genesis of the Religious Right in the late 1970s.

Not surprised at all that the religious right is founded on racism and hatred.

All the inter-racial couples in town should march in front of the church and start making out in public. That'll get those redneck's panties in a bunch.

BTW - When will Fox News run the story on the Christians war on integration??

Did you miss the part where.. ah hell, I'll quote it for you below. Looks like this church is alone, or at the absolute fringe, in that area in regards to not letting interracial couples attend. I don't want to spill your cup of rage, but I think it is highly disenguous to say that Christians are at war against integration. I could be wrong, have not been to a church in probably 30 or more years.

"It's not the spirit of the community in any way, shape or form," said Randy Johnson, president of the Pike County Ministerial Association, according to Kentucky.com.

After reading several articles on this, it appears that this policy may not be supported by a majority of this congregation. So far as I can discern, a few people were really militant about not wanting mixed couples and called for a vote. Most of the congregation didn't show up or participate, and the zealots were the only ones there voting, along with a smaller number of dissenters. The church's national organization has disavowed the policy and opposes it. It appears the church will likely take a more inclusive vote and get rid of it.

We have that already. While we love to yap about illegals we love the benefits than come with this virtual slave class. If the choices are "work in this field or get shot or starve back home" it's not much of a free choice.

The availability of the choice does not change the fundamental nature of what's going on.

I would even argue it's worse. At least with slavery the owner was responsible for the food, clothing, housing and medical care of the slave. Today we socialize/subsidize his profits by providing these things at a minimal level.

Interracial Couple Banned From Kentucky Church

I had truly hoped western civilization was getting past this way of thinking, but I guess not.

It's more like this Church has decided to ban itself from civilization and I am sure they will be dealt with appropriately. I would not be surprised to see them in the news again for something that has happened to their racist asses.

Sounds like how Obama got elected.

Her dad hates blacks. She hates her dad. She decides nothing will chap his ass more than marrying Chinuki a Nigerian and bringing him to church. Looks like it worked.

Not all inter-racial relationships are like that, but it does seem common for girls who have "daddy" issues to go after the men most likely to anger old pops.

anyway the story is rather unbelievable. i know its true but still.. ok i just don't get it.

I see it as more of a personal dispute between the ex pastor father and his daughter than the church itself. The dad doesnt want his daughter being with a black man, and the only power he has is his influence over people in his church so hes using it to spite her. Simple as that. Pastors [and Imans, Rabbis etc] have a shit ton of influence over their regular attendees and if he said I want your daughters to highly consider dating black men then im sure alot would tell their daughters to talk to Tyrone more..

it wasn't her dad that had the issue, it was the former preacher who did and pushed it:

Following the visit, former pastor Melvin Thompson told Harville that his daughter and her fiance could not sing at the church again. Thompson later proposed that the church go on record saying that while all people were welcome to attend public worship services there, the church did not condone interracial marriage.

and it looks like the church may rescind the policy:
