Interpreting power supply specs - Enermax MODU82+ 525 Watt

I'm considering this power supply for my upgrade:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817194035

($69.99 after MIR...)

I thought I had figured out how to read the amperage specs on power supplies but the specs on the 12 volt rails for this PSU have me completely baffled.

The output specs state the following:

+3.3V@24A
+5V@24A
+12V1@25A
+12V2@25A
+12V3@25A

-12V@0.6A
+5VSB@3.0A

The 25A ratings on each of the 3 12 volt rails just don't make sense to me considering this is a 525 watt PSU.

Or am I missing something? (Quite possible as sometimes I can be pretty stoopid.)

😕

It just means that any of those rails can deliver up to 25A (a lot of times, though, they can deliver more amps, i.e. if it says 17A on the +12V1 reviewers sometimes find that rail can actually deliver up to 30A or more). However, all three rails won't be able to output 25A at the same time. To know the 12V rail combined output, just look at the label. It says it can deliver 480W, which is 40A, total for +12V outputs combined. For this PSU's rating, you wouldn't even have to load the third 12V rail. You could put 20A on the first and 20A on the second if you'd like, and it should work fine.

But that's a damn good deal. Buy it now! It's one of the most efficient PSUs on the market.

OK, thanks. I understand, now. I was confused in that I thought you added up the amperage across all three rails to determine the total 12V amperage combined. (No, I didn't bother to look at the label. Duh...)

This PSU will soon be mine, then. 🙂

Thanks, guys!
