Interpretation of a Carfax Report

This 2026 Toyota Prius LE is being sold by a Chevy dealer in TN. It has ~800 miles on it. The report seems a bit odd to me. It says estimated length of ownership 23 days. It's bounced from one Toyota dealership to another then purchased and registered on 1/3/26 then sold by the Service Plan Co. on 1/4/26???? and then another ~740 miles put on it before being offered for sale. Who put the extra miles on it? What is the Service Plan Co.and what would be their involvement?

Looks to me like this car was sold as new, but had some defect that was covered under warranty but couldn't be fixed under warranty. So the original owner got a (second) new car, and this is the broken car being sold as-is. The interesting question would be how it's broken, and whether you could live with that.

I agree. The Carfax looks sketchy. Looking elsewhere.

Price history would be nice to see.
It was first listed for sale at Toyota of Knoxville for $31,423. before fees and taxes. From its vehicle spec sheet It came with these options:
All Weather Floor Liners/Cargo Liner
First Aid Kit
Quick Charge Cable
Emergency Assistance Kit
Body Side Molding
Door Edge Guards
Rear Bumper Applique
Mudguards
Premium Paint-Red
Front and Rear Parking Assist w/ Automatic Braking
I spoke to someone at Toyota of Knoxville and was told that it sold for MSRP and there were no extra dealer add-ons.
It is now listed at Long Chevy/GMC for $27,689., a drop of $300. since first listed there. It has been relisted on Facebook Marketplace with a mileage of 1100. Someone at the Chevy dealership is driving it. The mileage could be higher now.

That;s a drop of nearly $4k - a little over 10%, not $300. Seems like a lot to me, but really, at this point, it is a used car.

You misread, the Chevy dealership had it listed at $27,989. a few weks ago, now at $27,689. They dropped their price $300. since first listing it. Yes, the drop from the original MSRP is ~$3700. but the Carfax still looks sketchy.

It was first for sale at $31,243 according to what you posted. The next number you listed was $27,689. Where's the $27,989 I missed? I'm referring to the original price to the current asking price.

It's $31,423., not $31,243. Quoting myself, "It is now listed at Long Chevy/GMC for $27,689., a drop of $300. since first listed there." Where did you think there is? I thought that was crystal clear. Simple math, adding $300. to $27,689. gives you $27,989.

Lol. I clearly stated that I was comparing the first price you listed to the last price.my bad for dyslexing two rather insignificant numbers in the price. I sincerely apologize for that. But again, the price history you supplied shows a nearly $4k drop from the original selling price. Simple math indeed.

Instead of dwelling on the price do you have an answer or opinion to the questions in my first post about how to interpret the Carfax?

I would think the price drop would reveal something, but I don't know what would cause someone to get rid of a car after that short a period of time. It could be a defect in the car as posited by @Ken g6 or I suppose it could've had something to do with the owner. Did you ask the current seller about it?

I contacted the Chevy dealership before posting here and their sales person had no answers to my questions about the Carfax report. I have contacted Carfax directly today and asked them the same questions about the report. I'll post back their reply.

Carfax was no help. Here's their response to the same questions in my first post, "Not everything is reported to us, and all the information available is currently displaying on the CARFAX Report.
CARFAX always recommends obtaining a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified professional, which can provide physical assessment of the vehicle as well as uncover hidden problems and prior repairs."
I'm moving on to a Camry. Comparison
