Internship Dilema

So I just received an e-mail asking me to take part in an 8 week internship at a Massachusetts medical school's immunology dept. The problem is that I'm already in an internship down in Florida. I would love to go back up to MA since I only took this internship here because I couldn't find a job up there. Currently I'm working tissue culturing plants, and I have found out it's really not my thing. This other job will involve tissue culturing mice cells.

Issues:

- Told boss I'd stay until mid-August
- Boss is gone for a month until mid-July
- Somebody's already renting my room in MA
- Would piss of current person I'm renting off of
- Job Wants me ASAP
- Don't really know anybody down here
- Probably others I can't think of.

Seems like you are going to have to suck it up and stay in FL. Just act like it never happened and enjoy your time there.

I wouldn't burn bridges for an 8 week internship. Tough it out in Florida and live up to the commitments you made.

Sometimes you need to look out for number 1

If the opportunity is awesome, fucking go for it.

Further proof that the above poster is retarded. "Looking out for #1" in this case involves sucking it and living up to the commitment you already made.

Just ask the MA company to see if you can change the start date. Explain your current situation and that you would like to still do it, but you don't want to screw over your current boss. Worst they can say is no.

I'm with Sea Moose on this one. If the opportunity back in MA is so much better, go for it. You don't owe FL anything. You found better job, you took it.

To all the naysayers, it's no different than a regular job. He found better position and he's leaving. If FL place want to keep him they can get him more money to try and entice him.

What it really came down to was me figuring out that the most important thing as an intern is to get a good reliable source for a recommendation. Even though this job sucks I'll get a good recommendation from the professor. I have no idea about this other place.

And thanks for the advices everyone!

- Told boss I'd stay until mid-August

I'm sure he can be reached some how.

- Boss is gone for a month until mid-July

see above.

- Somebody's already renting my room in MA

Find another place to stay or kick the other guy out if there is no formal contract and you don't really care.

- Would piss of current person I'm renting off of

Shit happens. Is there a contract? If not, who cares if he's pissed? He'll chalk it up as a lesson learned.

- Job Wants me ASAP

Then go.

- Don't really know anybody down here

See above.

dude you have got to be the most unethical person in all of ATOT history.

I guess there is a reason no one cries when bad shit happens to lawyers.

Yeah I once left one internship to go to another...bad move. The new place was not greener and the people ended up sucking even though it looked good on paper. If your current job is tolerable the it's good that you chose to stick with it. Getting trashed by a company for jetting sucks.

What's all this BS on here? False loyalty to a job that he doesn't even like in a state he doesn't want to be in.

I would go
