internetoloper.exe

A few minutes after booting up my laptop AnyDVD popped up announcing that a new version of the software was available. So I clicked yes to download it and the moment IE took me to the site my McAfee Personal Firewall warned me that a program called "internetoloper.exe" was attempting to access the internet. I had no idea what it was so I blocked it. After getting my software update I did a google search on the name of the file and one hit pops up entitled, "a very clever and exciting place for words to live", which links to some blog site. I checked the virus data base at mcafee's site but no hits came up. I'm running Kaspersky on my main box so I decided to check out their DB as well but again, nothing.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it just part of the elaborate bytes updater for AnyDVD and CloneDVD? Any information would help.
Thanks.

Hey thanks for the reply and the site link. That's the first time I've seen that and I like it a lot. Anyway, here are my results:

I've quarantined the file and submitted it to Mcafee for review.
I keep my network very secure so I'm really not sure how this thing made it onto my computer. But, now that I'm paranoid, it's time to reformat 😉

Hi,

I had this same virus on my computer and my Mcafee firewall alerted me about it, but the antivirus part didnt detect it. After doing a lot of research on this i found two sites that refer to this,

The removal tool for this that removed this thing from my box is found here, http://info.prevx.com/downloadremove.asp

I found this reference to it on their site.

This site mentions this infection aswell and refers to the above site.

I still have no clue where it came from however....
