I just installed mandrake 8.2 on my box. (Dual booting with WinXP.) The speed of web browsing and downloading is extremely slow. I'm on a T3+ edu connection and it screams in winXP.

What can I do to try to fix this in linux. I have a 3com 3c905b network card and I'm a linux newbie.

Thanks

I suggest typing "ifconfig" at the command prompt (without the quotes) and taking a look at your nic settings.
It should probably be set at 100/tx full duplex, and make sure that you have the correct driver installed.

Dave, I really have no idea. Steell's suggestion is a good one - "ifconfig" is usually in /sbin/ifconfig. Check that the correct driver for your card is being used, but aside from this, I couldn't suggest anything. In the past, I've had problems with my ethernet card and Linux, but it's always been that it simply didn't work at all. I've never had it run really slow.

Make sure that you have your dns and router settings correct. Check /etc/resolv.conf ... someone else know where the router is at? I know in solaris and redhat, but not mandrake.

Anyways, check the dns.. you may have a bad one first that it is having to time out for every time before going to the good one.
