Internet speed is a lot slower than it should be?

So I have AT&T Uverse which uses fiber optics, which is supposed to be blazing fast..and when I log into my router these are the speeds that it lists:

Incoming: 25216 kbps
Outgoing: 2048 kbps

However my actual speed when doing speed tests are only 1500 down and 900 up. What can I do even out these numbers some more?

Other than paying for faster Internet access, nothing.

The 25 meg profile you are seeing is total for TV, Internet, and VoIP (if you have it).

You can choose Internet speeds from 1.5 up to 18 meg.

also note that your actual max (without the 25 meg cap) would typically be well over 50 meg.

The other thing to note is that the advertised speed is a theoretical maximum. Minus any cap that ScottMac notes.

If certain parts of your network are wireless, you will take a big hit on speed. I assume that some of your uvese service still comes in on copper lines even if the bulk of is fiber Optic. And Copper lines are notorious for having all kinds of possible electrical interference that can flat out kill speed. And who knows if you are sharing the copper and Fiber optic parts with too many others? Does it speed up in the wee hours of the morning?

But if you are getting less than 10% of what they promised, I would be asking tech support why.

Yeah, the speed it shows in the 2wire modem/router is the aggregate speed of your internet, TV, and phone service.

For what it's worth, I snuck a peek at the installers cable tester while he was verifying my line, and the line qualified up to 55mbit.

I'm paying for 6 down, 1 up, and getting it, so I'm happy.

What speed are you actually paying for, Syringer? If you are paying for a 25mbps line, then your results are low. If you are paying for a 1.5mpbs line, then you're getting what you paid for.
