Internet Sharing

I have 3 computers. 2 are hooked together by a Linksys Router/Switch. The third connects to the network by means of wireless PCMCIA cards on the middle computer and the Notebook. I have LAN access from notebook to middle computer, but I cant get the DHCP on the router to dole out a IP address for the Notebook. The Notebook doesnt even see the router. I assume its because I have no hardware or software access point. I thought that installing Internet sharing from the WIN98 would allow me to share the internet to the notebook, but it is a royal pain and I can't seem to figure it out. Is there an easier to use internet sharing software that is free? Or am I better off just getting the hardware access point? Thanks in advance....

why would you need internet connection sharing if you have a router? the router should be connected to the internet connection and all other computer connected to it.

<edit> ok, i get it now. did you try setting the IP address of the noetbook manually and setting the gateway as the IP address of the router?

I manually entered the router as the gateway address and still no go. The notebook cant see the router at all. I dont think it really can since it is not part of the ethernet network...

i think you're going to have to have the all NIC's connecting to the central hub.

practically networked does tell you how to do ad hoc. but the internet sharing did not explain it enough for me. (yes I am new to this) Connecting it directly to the switch is not possible without an access point. I broke down and ordered one from buy.com but it is so backordered that i might die of old age before i get it.:frown:
