Currently I have 2 Athlon PC's...connected together via network cards....for my 2nd machine to access the internet it has to go through my main PC which has the cable conencted 2 it.

What I am getting at is it possible for the 2nd PC to connect to the internet without having 2 turn on the computer with the Cable Modem attched 2 it

i am not aware of any way to solve it. I would suggest picking up a DSL/Cable router...they are quite cheap now. I got my netgear for just $20 after MIR and price matching :)

u need a router or at least a computer that acts as a router, which I think the 2nd computer connected to the internet is doing. Instead of the setup you have, you cable would go into the router and both comps would go into the other end of the router and the cable connection is shared. Routers cost about 60 dollars on the low end, which should be fine. I turned one of my old computers with a cheap power supply(60W) into a router for my dsl. Works great if you want a project to do or if you don't want the hassle, the Hotdeals forum usually will have a router type flavoring.

save yourself some time by getting a router it will cut down on your bandwith a little but it will be worth it. or just get another ip for the other computer and then buy a hub
