Internet running unstable/disconnects.

It used to do this when my oldest brother and I used to feed off of the router. The connection would just be very bad, or it was disconnect and resulting in having to unplug the router/modem so it'd work again. My brother moved out and I ran off the router alone. It ran fine after this, I maybe had one disconnect over a few months period.

My other brother currently moved his computer in and is now on the network. The connection is back to what it was.

Is it a bad router or something? Can routers get too hot?

Too hot? No. As always are NIC drivers/router firmware updated? Without knowing more my first instinct is the router firmware.

I found out he does use Kazaa, and I don't believe this has ever been updated... how does one do that? It's Linksys

What brand and model router are you using? I had this problem with a Dlink 704P. Switched to a Lynksys and haven't had the problem since. And the Dlink got very warm almost hot. The Lynksys doesn't. I could have gotten a bad one.

Go to the Linksys site to the support area and look up your model. It's printed either on the front of it or on the bottom, then look for firmware. Download that file to your computer. Open up the router in your browser and you can update the firmware in there. Can't remember the exact menu button (been a while since I've used my Linksys) Advanced I think then Firmware? In any case it's easy as pie to do, just make sure you get the right file.
