internet problems

At some point in the last week all my programs (accept for internet explorer and windows update) lost internet access (firefox, 2.0.13 and 3.4b, opera, maxthon, symantec live update,lenovos update tool). I have checked the proxy settings on all of them (and tried with comodo disabled) and I get the same results. It seems to have occured shortly after going from firefox 2.0.12 to 2.0.13 but I doubt that was the cause, this is on a x61 tablet running vista ultimate (32) without sp1 (as it won't show up in the automatic updates list and manualy installing it caused probelms (web access was lost before the sp1 update was tried)).

I would guess it has something to do with comodo (and defense plus), as shortly before everything stopped working I uninstalled norton internet securtity (which came preinstalled) installed symantec av (10.XX) and comodo (as my school requires symantec av to log onto the network).

Any suggestions (outside of a clean install of vista/sp1) would be appreciated.

i qm only seing this problem on my tablet (x61v), my desktop is fine.

after windows update ran last night things got worse. Now I can ping webpages, and I can acess computers on my network but no browser works, and windows update no longer connects (network diagnostics return nothing wrong, sending a report doesn't work as it says it will send next time I am connected, even though I am currently connected). I have checked my dns and mtu settings and they seem ok, I also have tried reseting winsock with no impact. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
