I have 2 partitions (seperate HDD's) one XP home, one 2000. I have cable internet connected via ethernet to the pc, and since 2 days ago the internet is not working in XP, but works fine in 2000. I seem to be getting issued an IP from my ISP, but cant ping or access anything. Also, Zonealarm is popping up access alerts as though it was just installed. This happens all the time since the internet problems started.
This seems really weird.I have not called my isp yet as I do feel its a problem on my end.. any ideas?

You could try temporarily shutting down Zone Alarm and see if you can know browse. I had a similar problem with the newest version of ZA recently. Going back to an older one let me surf.

ZA seems to be having some serious problems in the more recent versions - anything from destroyed systems/comm stacks to intermittent disconnects on broadband connections
Try uninstalling completely and see if this helps -- BE SURE TO SET THE FIREWALL TO "OFF" AND DISABLE ANY OTHER COMPONENTS SINCE FAILING TO DO SO BEFORE UNINSTALL CAN CAUSE THE UNINSTALL TO FAIL.

You may want to have Zone Alarm open.

When I installed Road Runner on my PC, Zone Alarm was not on. (It hadn't been for months). However, I couldn't get a signal from Road Runner. The tech said he could see my IP address until my PC started up. Something was cutting it off at startup. I went into msconfig and unchecked everything. Nothing was starting up. When we opened up Zone Alarm, a message asked if we wanted the IP to have access to the Internet.

So even when Zone Alarm wasn't on, it was blocking the IP address from getting out.

The same thing may be happening here.

You may want to try to have Zone Alarm on and reset your IP address.
