Internet problem with IE and FF

Hello, here is the problem...
IE and FireFox only are able to work for a select view sites such as google, hotmail, and sometimes anandtech and newegg. but they won't work for example www.buy.com. it says could not be found
All sites seem to work for AOL

i have 3 computers,
comp1 uses IE winXPpro,
comp2 uses FF win2000pro,
comp3 uses both IE and AOL winXPHome.

on c3 IE doesn't work except for a few sites, just like c1 and c2, but AOL works for all.

There might be a problem with the router or cable, because when i bypass the router and use the cable modem with IE on c1 it works fine.

Oh and i tried to ping www.buy.com and it displayed 'Unknown host www.buy.com'

I don't know if this has any relevance but i will state it anyway.
Wednesday night everything worked fine. A house inspector came by thursday afternoon and about the time they left is when i tried accessing the internet and had trouble. the inspector checked and thumbed everything such as switching the housebreakers, i don't know what he did as far as if anything with the internet cable under the house. Then again the AOL does work soooo....

i am using 3com cable modem and a dlink DI-614+ router, 2 antennas. All three computers are wired.

PLEASE HELP! ive spent last 9hrs on this with both internet provider and dlink support.

Have you tried pinging the DNS servers? In a command-line window, do an ipconfig /all and now ping the DNS servers that you're shown.

Random shotgun approach: also, did you scan the system for viruses and spyware?

i did an ipconfig /all and pinged the DNS servers which worked and ive got no viruses and no spyware. still having troubles with IE and FireFox.

Thanks for the help
i switched the router with my linksys and my computer worked, so what ever the problem was it was with the router.
However i reconnected then d-link which wasn't working and now some how all computers are back to normal and work! awsome.
