Internet only slow on certain things

I have something going on that I don't quite understand. Now I am no network expert at all, know enough to get me in trouble lol.

Anyways, I have an online flash game that I play and for a while now, everything loads up real slow on it. But when I go to a friends house and play the same game on his computer, it is much faster. Now at my house, I am running at about 28 DL and 4-5 UL speeds. My friends speeds are just a bit slower but not my much and he is hooked up wireless where I am hardwired.

Since I can play at my friends house with no issues, it has to be something on my end. Now I have tried some different things myself. The modem we use has a router built in. I tried using a different router, Linksys wrt3200acm with no change. Tried different ports on the linksys router, tried different cables going to the linksys router, tried hooking up directly to the modem. I reset the modem with no change.

I have contacted AT&T, we have Uverse triple play package, phone, tv and internet. They did some tests on their end and they said there was a wiring issue with the modem and they sent me a new one. Ok so I got the new one hooked up, that is what I am using now and there isn't any difference. I contacted them again and they said they are sending someone out to check all the lines. I got a feeling they either are not going to find anything or if they do, it's not going to solve the issue.

So in the meantime, I am trying to see if there is any type of setting in the modem that can be causing issues. But I have no clue where to start.

To me, none of what is happening is making any sense to me. I don't get why I would run slow in the game when a speed test shows 28 DL and 4 UL speeds. I can browse internet fine, at least it seems, web pages load up fast. But when I go to watch a youtube video, it loads up real slow, almost to the point where the playing progress would almost catch up to it. The loading progress would stop for several seconds, then just jump up quite a bit. And this is a video that is just music playing. Now I know there maybe alot of factors that can cause slow loading on youtube so something to go by.

Besides a speed test, is there a way that I can check to see if my internet is running as fast as it should be? I mean I am guessing one can still have issues even if speed tests show fast speeds.

Now here is something else that is really puzzling me about all of this. I was running an i7-920 with 6gbs of ram, intel ssd and 1gb video card, I took this computer to family members house which has 100mb internet and it was not running all that much faster than my internet, there was a difference but not a big difference. So that got me thinking it was in my system. I built a new computer, the one in my sig and there is no difference what so ever. Now I have not took the new computer to my family members house but I am thinking there isn't going to be any difference. How am I able to play the game at a friends house on his computer with no issues at all? He is running a laptop with a 3rd gen i7, 16gb of ddr4 ram and ssd drive.

You can not solve the problem, because you (and we) have absolutely no idea what the problem actually is.

You could start by telling us what the game is, what the URL for that game/website is. So we can try ourselves. Or see if there is anything peculiar about that game or website. Maybe it's IPv6. Maybe it's not well connected to the Internet, and your ISP has a bad/congested connection to the game's ISP. And your friend's ISP happens to have a a better connection. So many factors, if you are vague, we can only make vague guesses.

About 28 Mbps versus 100 Mbps, just by "feeling" how fast your browser responds does not indicate how fast a connection is. You will notice when downloading large files. Suppose you download a 10 GB file. That takes roughly 1000 seconds on 100 Mbps, which is 17 minutes. If you download the same file via your 28 Mbps connection, it'll take over an hour. Then you'll notice. Your old computer was a bit slow, but still fast enough to use a 28 Mbps internet-connection or even a 100 Mbps connection to the max. Don't worry about that. I hope you built your computer also because of other reason (like playing other games). Enjoy your new computer.

The game in question is wartune, http://wartune.r2games.com/

Are there test files to download or what would be a good size program I can download? When downloading a large file, how fast should I be downloading it on my 28mps connection? EDIT: I was downloading Destiny 2 today which is around a 45gb file, can't recall exactly and it was downloading at speeds around 3-4mbps.

I did build my computer to play other games, just started playing Destiny 2 and plan on playing BF1.

It's a Flash game... a dead platform. For a true test, bring your laptop/computer to your friends house to see if loading is still 'slow'

I may have found the issue or at least part of it but not sure what the deal is. I was playing the game on chrome when I was having trouble with the game. I switched to edge and instantly noticed a big difference, everything loads up fine now, it's like a whole different game. There is one issue with edge and that is there is a delay in certain things like typing, sometimes it will take 2-3 seconds to show up.

Why would it be running so bad on chrome? I have talked to others in game and they said they use chrome with no lag and others said chrome is crap.

About my actual internet speed, I was downloading a 45gb file, Destiny 2 and it was downloading at 3mbps. For my 28mbps connection, is that considered normal?

It was probaby downloading at 3 MBps (megabytes per second) which is around the line for a 28 Mbps (megabits per second) connection.

I am not a fan of Chrome, but I am in the minority based on most polls I read. Hower, if Edge works for your game, then I would call it a victory!

Just what version of chrome is this?
The new ones block flash by default, and that is a good thing.

I am using Version 63.0.3239.108 (Official Build) (64-bit) and I have it allow flash

I just don't get any of this. I know someone who has a much less connection than me and can only use chrome, he has tried edge and other browsers but none as good as chrome but chrome is unplayable for me. We also play on the same server.

If all your problems are just with that one game, it would make much more sense to ask your questions on a forum about that specific game. We can answer "generic" questions about networking here. But your game might do specific things, or have specific bugs or shortcoming regarding certain browsers or operating systems that we could never be aware of.
