Internet not working

I just built my computer today, and I got XP Pro set up. I also set up my internet connection, and I have a US Robotics Performance Pro modem. The problem is, when I connect to the internet, it connects normally, but the home page loads halfway then quits, and If I try to reload navigate to a new page it says DNS Error network connection not found. The default settings are still in place, and even when the error comes up the internet connection still appears to be functioning in the tray. Please help...

1. The modem could be defective. If you have another modem available, test this theory.
2. Your ISP could be defective. If you have another computer which conects to this ISP, test this theory.

IF it is active, disable the windows firewall. you can always re-activate it later (or get a better one) once you have your internet connection working.
